Here we are again. A new year. New goals. New beginnings.

I haven’t posted since the beginning of 2021. Those of you that hang out with me on Instagram know that my little brother has been missing since the end of 2020. Life just became different for us and it was harder to try to inspire others. You shouldn’t make your life there though. It isn’t healthy. So I am trying new beginnings. He would have wanted that. ❤️ (Whew…some sentences are just harder to type.)

Life is full of possibilities. It’s full of fresh starts and growth. It’s full of things to look forward to and also long moments of contentment in the here and now. Each day to be celebrated for the gift that it is.

I hope that 2023 truly is your year. I hope that you find that one junkin’ find that has been elusive until now! I hope that you paint your dining room the color of an antique crock. (I plan to!) I hope that your sheep have babies! (Ours too!) I hope that whatever your hopes and dreams are…that you give them to God and He covers them with glitter, as only He can. Here’s to new beginnings, my friends!

Three Hundred and Sixty Five. Sometimes that seems like a lot and sometimes not. Yet…here we are.

Opportunities to love others through actions.

Opportunities to listen. (My word for the year.)

Opportunities to be positive.

Opportunities to laugh.

Most of all three hundred and sixty five opportunities to lift our hearts in praise to Jesus and enjoy life with Him.

Here we are, Friends. May you enjoy all three hundred and sixty five opportunities.

Do you all have a hobby? Crocheting started as a hobby for me. A stress reliever of sorts. Then it turned into a small business. I am so thankful for that. The life of a maker…is the life for me.

It took me a while to find my niche, but I always knew that it was something along the creating lines. From the time that I was a little girl…I have always been happiest and more at peace with anything creative. Art class was my favorite. The smells and the atmosphere always nourished a part of my soul. The art easel in kindergarten and the smoothness of the tempera paints…soothed a part of me.

If I could encourage you today…find your niche. You know you…better than anyone and we can all make something in this life. It may not be art. It may be music or math or food. We are all so different. Isn’t that wonderful!?Just look inside and find what God intended for you to be. He made just one of YOU…jam packed full of gifts and potential. He’s sweet like that.

Who would have thought? The girl that struggled through Home Economics can actually sew a bit and crochet! Lol! I know, I know…not a biggie for most people…but Mrs. McGoldrick was impressed when I told her. (Small town life. Our kids go to school with her grands.)

Do you guys have a hobby? Most of my sewing is things that are needed or rag quilts. I actually really enjoy it. Very relaxing to me. Crocheting on the other hand has become a small business and I am so thankful for that!

I began crocheting years ago. I worked for a lady that also had her family working with her. Between them and my friend Jenny, we learned to crochet. I picked it up again years later and really wasn’t all that great. It was all of that counting that I wasn’t interested in. #mathishard

Rewind to last year. I had been making wonky dishrags for my friends and family, bless their hearts, and then I decided to YouTube it up and make them the right way. You know…the exact science. 😉 So from there my little ADR Farmhouse Dishrag business took off. I am so thankful for the way that God just blew the doors off of my/our little business. (Shoutout to the Mr. who mails all of the packages at the P.O.)

It has grown a bit this spring from just dishrags to mug rugs/coasters too. They are a bit reminiscent of what your granny might make…with a bit of farmhouse feel from this era.

You know…when you ask God to cause things to bloom in your life…you never know what He is going to do. I will tell you this though…it will be perfect and timely. It will just fall into place. That is His way.

The Importance of Cozy

When you come home at the end of a busy day…cozy is so important. A place to unwind. A place to exhale. A place to “cozy up” as my babies used to say.

A place where you can eat a warm meal or if you don’t feel like cooking…a sandwich to fill your belly. A place where “jammies” as we call them…are the dress code.

It’s so nice to have a favorite spot to take a good book and a cozy throw. Even in the warmer months when the a/c is blasting. Sometimes that is my favorite time to cover up. I grew up with window air, at my dad’s, that would freeze you out. Talk about some good sleeping. Lol! Maybe it was the hum of the air conditioner. It was absolutely cozy…because I had a…wait for it…waterbed! Lol!

One of the coziest homes that I have ever been in was when my mom and stepdad lived in a tiny blue house. It was the most relaxing little place. My room had a fluffy feather bead and it felt like a cloud after a long day. We had a wood stove to warm up by in the winter. My mom has always been good at creating a cozy atmosphere. She takes that with her no matter where she lives. That is one of the many things that I love about her. She knows the importance of cozy.

So it’s been a little while. I hope that all is well on the home front. We have been crazy busy and I have kept this little blog up on the shelf for a bit. Just a few dirt road happenings…but first a question:

Do people still read blogs?

Seriously. In the world of Instagram, where you get a little shot in the arm, which is like a speedy blog post, do people still read blogs? Just curious. I would love your input!!!

Okay…on to other things.

While I haven’t been blogging, I have been keeping up (trying to) with the Mr. and the kids. AND crocheting up a storm. I have a little Farmhouse Dishrag business that the Lord has just blown the doors off of…so I have been busy…and thankful!!! I love creating…so this is perfect.

It’s so fun to send little bits of our home to the homes of others.

Anyway…I hope that you all are well and joyful. I hope that life is treating you good and that you feel the love of Jesus from your crown to your pinky toes.

Happy Thanksgiving ‘18

You guys! Thanksgiving ’18 is about to begin. What are we gonna do with it? Eat too much? Maybe. Wear stretchy clothes? Maybe. Be spiritually aware of those around us…listening more…and waiting for God’s nudge? Definitely.

My Maw Maw is celebrating in Heaven today. This will be the first Thanksgiving that my momma and her family will have to go through without her. Knowing about grief myself, I understand. Today…amidst being thankful…by God’s grace…I plan to just be available. A shoulder, a hug, a smile, or laughter. I want to be sensitive to their needs. I understand the depth of this. Five years ago during Thanksgiving, we were waiting to bury my sweet daddy. So with that in mind…I want to be very sensitive today. Thankful…and aware. I’m not sure why I feel this so heavy on my heart. Maybe you all need it too.

So…let’s move on a bit. Do you all bake tons of pie? We are actually switching it up and having fajitas with my parents. I made a huge batch of fresh salsa last night. Our girls made custard pie and our famous Granny Ruby’s chocolate chip cookies to take. My sweet husband loves pie. I need to make a New Year’s resolution to make him one a week. That would be fun!

Whatever your traditions…may the be blessed. May you feel Jesus at your holiday table. May you remember to listen today…and step in…wherever the Lord wants you to serve. That is my prayer for our own day.

Hello guys! How is life treating you? We have been busy! This season of life has us meeting ourselves coming and going…but it’s a good busy…I think. Anyway…thoughts on November today.

1. Cozy. Give me allllll the blankets, good books, crochet, and spiced cider. (1 jug of apple juice, one bag of Red Hots and heat on the stove until melted. You will thank me.)

2. Cheer. Halloween is over for another year and the holiday season has begun. TBH sometimes (a lot) I struggle with all of that. I have sincerely prayed for the Lord to help me with it. He has. I am enjoying it already. It can be so overwhelming…but I want Him to give me the right perspective.

3. Cherish. November is a bit solemn for me. My sweet daddy went to be with Jesus, the week of Thanksgiving, 5 years ago. They say that time heals…and I agree somewhat. If I let my mind go there though…my heart aches…just the same. I choose to cherish. I cherish the memories…mostly of him being our kid’s Poppy. He was so proud of them. That is a gift.

There you have it, Dirt Roaders. A few thoughts on November. It’s a month that smells like pumpkin pie spice…mixed with cedar. It’s a month of gratitude to the One who walks with us all through the year. Now that is something to write home about. 🖤

Have you seen that on Facebook? I believe that it says something like…”It feels like January 74th. Or is it 73rd? Whatever it is…this weather is hormonal. It affects us in lots of ways doesn’t it? I tend to talk about the weather here because it contributes to moods and activity.

This year has kind of went by in a blur so far for us. We found out last fall that our daughter was having some physical problems so we have made several trips to St. Louis. That puts everything else on the back burner and that is definitely okay. We think that they have her on the right track now. We are so thankful for that and for the way that the Lord has directed our steps.

It’s supposed to snow a little, or sleet, and rain, tomorrow. In April. January 74th…you have been a long one.

I have been prepping for summer a bit. A pillow cover made from an old feed sack added a bit of warmth to this January weather. 😉

If it feels like January 74th to you…just hang on. It will be August 87th before you know it.

I’m barely making it under the wire. It’s 11:50. I might get this published in time to actually say “Good Morning!” but if not…I appreciate the grace. 😉

<

sent that to my MIL on Facebook this morning. An appropriate funny for a Monday…don’t you think? She knows that I’m crazy…so it’s all good. (I’m not sure where that little arrow is coming from or why the s isn’t capitalized…maybe it’s because it’s Monday. Sheesh!)

shot of our mantle on IG today. I stated there that it had all the things needed for winter. Twinkly lights, good books, and greens. Well…probably also the Keurig…but it won’t fit up there. 😉 Anyway…good morning and Happy Monday, Dirt Roaders.
