Who would have thought? The girl that struggled through Home Economics can actually sew a bit and crochet! Lol! I know, I know…not a biggie for most people…but Mrs. McGoldrick was impressed when I told her. (Small town life. Our kids go to school with her grands.)

Do you guys have a hobby? Most of my sewing is things that are needed or rag quilts. I actually really enjoy it. Very relaxing to me. Crocheting on the other hand has become a small business and I am so thankful for that!

I began crocheting years ago. I worked for a lady that also had her family working with her. Between them and my friend Jenny, we learned to crochet. I picked it up again years later and really wasn’t all that great. It was all of that counting that I wasn’t interested in. #mathishard

Rewind to last year. I had been making wonky dishrags for my friends and family, bless their hearts, and then I decided to YouTube it up and make them the right way. You know…the exact science. 😉 So from there my little ADR Farmhouse Dishrag business took off. I am so thankful for the way that God just blew the doors off of my/our little business. (Shoutout to the Mr. who mails all of the packages at the P.O.)

It has grown a bit this spring from just dishrags to mug rugs/coasters too. They are a bit reminiscent of what your granny might make…with a bit of farmhouse feel from this era.

You know…when you ask God to cause things to bloom in your life…you never know what He is going to do. I will tell you this though…it will be perfect and timely. It will just fall into place. That is His way.

Farmhouse Hygge

farmhouse style, home, hygge

It’s Thursday, Dirt Roaders!  It’s almost the weekend! You have made it! Fist bumps all around!  Today I thought that we would visit a little bit about Farmhouse Hygge.  Have you been hearing the word hygge tossed around?  If not, I will elaborate a bit.

Hygge (Pronounced HOO-GA) is a Norwegian and Danish word for a mood of coziness and comfortable friendliness with feelings of wellness and contentment. It has become a very popular vibe for home decor, especially the more casual and relaxed farmhouse, cottage, and log home styles. I love the whole concept. Surround yourself with things that feel like home to you.  I tend to use that hashtag when I post something that feels very hygge to me.

If you have followed here very long I’m sure that you can sense the love for things that mean home to us.  Most of the things that I keep have some sort of meaning behind them.  I tend to shop second hand for older things.  I enjoy things that are gently loved and look like they have a story to tell.  Lots of the things that we have are passed on from family members or friends.  My mom, my mother-in-law, and I, tend to pass things back and forth between our homes.  “Here…I’m tired of this for a while.  You wanna use it?  Just don’t get rid of it when you are bored with it.” lol!  My mother-in-law is using a Victrola cabinet that my mom let me use in our first home over 20 years ago. I’m telling ya…we are no stranger to the junk swap. My mom has a wooden cabinet above their toilet that was my mother-in-law’s. My mom also has a barn wood corner cabinet that my father-in-law made for us. The longer I work on this post…the more things I can come up with.  I’ll not keep listing stuff. You’re welcome. 😉

Whatever your idea of hygge is, I hope that you have it.  I hope that you surround yourself with things, colors, textures, scents, and photos that you love.  If Farmhouse Hygge is your thing…I hope that you go for it.  If simplicity floats your boat…may you enjoy that to the highest power.  This ol’ world can be kinda (a lot) crazy.  I hope that whatever your idea of home is…you step into that at the end of the day.  Whether it’s in a New York City apartment or at the end of a dirt road, may your heart breathe a little sigh of contentment when you get there.

16 Loads and Whadda Ya Get?

Clean laundry!!! That’s what you get. I don’t really have 16 loads…but I have our washer swishin’ and our dryer fluffing. I am so thankful for the washer and dryer.  I know this isn’t super exciting stuff…but it’s real life.  Since I was sick over the weekend I didn’t get much laundry done.  It breeds when you take your eyes off of it.

img_2481

This vintage print hangs in our laundry room.  I love it.  Hanging pretty things in your laundry room or area is key.  After all…it’s pretty much a hangout.

On another note…May 1st.  Can you even believe it?  This year is zoooooooming by. The sun has been shining here in Southern Missouri the last couple of days.  It’s beginning to feel like spring.  Just in time for summer. 😉

img_1492

Do you guys make your own laundry soap? I have been thinking about it.  I use the wool dryer balls in the dryer, but I still use liquid detergent.  I don’t have front loaders but I do have he machines. I would love it if you would leave me your laundry thoughts. Recipes on homemade soap…bring ’em.  Is it worth the hassle?  Does it scratch your Gain itch.  lol! I know…I know…we don’t need all of that artificial fragrance…but I am a scent lover.  Blame this ol’ schnoz on the family tree.

SONY DSC

Don’t worry, Dirt Roaders, I don’t owe my soul to the company store.  Or our washer and dryer. lol! Jesus owns that. I do a lot of laundry though. I’m not complaining.  It’s a comforting way to serve our family.  I have said before…I will take this over walking down to the pond and scrubbing them on a rock.  That is what you call doing laundry!

Over here with 16 loads. (Jaaaaay Kaaaaay!)

Have you seen that on Facebook? I believe that it says something like…”It feels like January 74th. Or is it 73rd? Whatever it is…this weather is hormonal. It affects us in lots of ways doesn’t it? I tend to talk about the weather here because it contributes to moods and activity.

This year has kind of went by in a blur so far for us. We found out last fall that our daughter was having some physical problems so we have made several trips to St. Louis. That puts everything else on the back burner and that is definitely okay. We think that they have her on the right track now. We are so thankful for that and for the way that the Lord has directed our steps.

It’s supposed to snow a little, or sleet, and rain, tomorrow. In April. January 74th…you have been a long one.

I have been prepping for summer a bit. A pillow cover made from an old feed sack added a bit of warmth to this January weather. 😉

If it feels like January 74th to you…just hang on. It will be August 87th before you know it.

I’m barely making it under the wire. It’s 11:50. I might get this published in time to actually say “Good Morning!” but if not…I appreciate the grace. 😉

<

sent that to my MIL on Facebook this morning. An appropriate funny for a Monday…don’t you think? She knows that I’m crazy…so it’s all good. (I’m not sure where that little arrow is coming from or why the s isn’t capitalized…maybe it’s because it’s Monday. Sheesh!)

shot of our mantle on IG today. I stated there that it had all the things needed for winter. Twinkly lights, good books, and greens. Well…probably also the Keurig…but it won’t fit up there. 😉 Anyway…good morning and Happy Monday, Dirt Roaders.

Is Old Man Winter getting up in your grill? Lol! He tends to do that…when his breath is below freezing. I threaten to wrap up like a burrito, in a blanket, this time of year. True story.

I have been doing a little “winter reset” around the Farmhouse. That keeps Old Man Winter off of my back. Little bright touches of pretty.

My in-laws gave me this gorgeous, handmade, sign for Christmas. It’s the perfect touch for a more neutral palette after the holiday season. Fresh and clean. January is good for that. I got a slow start with that…but I’m getting a little skedaddle in my get along now. (If you don’t speak Ozarkian…that means I finally got in gear…on week two.) Burritos don’t get much done.

Our sweet friends gave us this ottoman. It’s so cozy and our kids love it. I was gonna put it in the basement but I got overruled. That’s okay…cozy helps keep Old Man Winter at bay. Crusty ol’ feller.

Good Morning!

Hey guys! Are you bright eyed and bushy tailed today? I wouldn’t go that far myself, but I do have the bed stripped and ready to go in the wash. Does that count? Well…good morning anyway. Lol!

If you follow along on Instagram…you might have seen my post about Grove Collaborative this morning. I wanted to share it here too. It’s a great company to order household supplies from. I am so excited about the last order that came in the mail.

Here is the link so you can check it out:

So…I hope that you are having a good…no…great morning. I hope that your coffee is still hot. I hope that you have supper plans made. I also hope that you stay warm on this winter day.

Speaking of supper plans…I don’t have a clue. I’d better shake a tail feather. 😉

fall, farmhouse, farmhouse style

So this week it has been just a few shy of 100 degrees…but the first day of fall is upon us.

So regardless of temps, I gradually put out a few fall things this week.

I hope that wherever you are…fall is on your radar. I hope that your allergies are under control and that your pumpkin spice game is strong.

Psssst…you’ve got a little candy corn in your teeth. Jaaaaay kaaaay! It’s pumpkin bread. 😉

You guys! It’s smokin’ hot here! Like you feel grody when you step outside kind of hot. I know..I know…it gets hot every year in the summer…but this week it’s very much like the song. We are feeling hot, hot, hot in the Ozarks.

Now that you have our weather report *snicker, we can move on to other things like gorgeous grocery store roses. Anyone that braves our ALDI deserves fresh flowers. It is, sometimes, insanely busy at ours.

I love the look of roses in humble vases. An old crock, a Ball jar, anything like that. I also love it that they are so thrifty at the grocery store. The cream with blush centers might be my very favorite. Maybe. 😉

If you have never picked up a few grocery store roses for yourself…seriously…try it. Such an inexpensive way to add a little beauty to your home. They usually last several days, so you get a little eye candy for under five dollars. Trust me. You’re worth it.

You can never have too many succulents. I promise. You need a succulent here…and a succulent there.

They will make you smile as you walk by. Or waltz by. Whatever you do.

Their colors, as cool as the Caribbean waters, will delight your eyeballs.

They are whimsical, fun, and low maintenance. (Don’t over water.) They just add a bit of fun to your space. Like you guys didn’t already know all of this. My Dirt Roaders are smart.

Happy Monday!
