Do you have the”cleaning out” bug?  It usually surfaces with me…big time…in January.  It seems like it took a couple of weeks this time though.  We have been busy and I just wasn’t super focused on it.  That being said…I do love a fresh start.  Yesterday was a snow day for our kiddos and I just piddled around and cleaned a bit.  I moved things and left clean surfaces.  I love that.

Today I was checking Instagram and came across a post by the Nester.  Do you follow her?  Of course you do. Anyway…I loved what she had to say about “quieting the house.”  She mentioned that she likes to put all of the small things away for a few days.  I can totally see how that would “quiet” things.  Just a pretty, clean, unobstructed view of the main things in the home.  I may try a bit of that myself today.  I thought that it was fun that I had been practicing “clean surfaces” yesterday, and then came across her post today.

I hope that you have a wonderful day, Dirt Roaders.  I hope that wherever you are…life is gentle and kind, and that you find the peace of God…residing in your heart.

Hey sweet Dirt Roaders!  How are you today?  We are good.  We had a little weekend get away of sorts.  Now I am trying to get back in the saddle again.  Yesterday, I took the day off.  Well, as much as any mother does.  I still did laundry, cooked and a few other things.  Anyway…I thought that I would give you a little Instagram eye candy.  This week is very busy for me…so I’m not sure how many posts I will get up, but we shall see.  😉

Do you love Instagram?

I love taking pictures.  It gets my creative wheels turning.

I have more lotion bars to make, here in a little while.  I just thought that you needed to know that.  😉

New Life at the Farmhouse

Hey Dirt Roaders!  I’m back!  It’s been awhile.  I decided to take off a bit for Spring Break.  It’s one of my favorite times of the year.  We had a really good time, just relaxing and enjoying each other.  We were also blessed with some new life at the Farmhouse.  We were all very, very, excited!

This little mama does an amazing job.  She was getting very broody…so the Mr. marked some eggs for her.  She sat on them…and now, Goldie,  has a little family of four.  We are so proud of her.

We also have two very spoiled goats at the Farmhouse, Myrtle and Peanut.  We love them to pieces…but they are rotten.  They bring us lots of entertainment though.

SONY DSC

Do you have any big spring projects on the agenda?  We have a few.  I have been cleaning out here and there in the house.  I kinda slacked off on my 40 Bags in 40 Days with our little vacay…but I’m ready to get back on track.  I am also really anxious to get started outside.  My herb bed needs a lot of TLC!

The sun is shining today and I am glad.  I’m hoping that the snow is gone until next winter.  I hope that you have a wonderful Monday, Dirt Roaders!

Happy to be back,

The Birth of Farmhouse Photography

I did my first real photo shoot this week. I mean with people.  Not with Pyrex or cast iron or furniture.  Real people and several shots.  Real people out in the pasture.  I even stepped in a cow pattie.  Now…I have done mini photo shoots with my kids…but they don’t really WANT their pictures taken. I also did a shoot with my husband and son that I loved but…these were people that wanted me to take their pictures.  Thus…Farmhouse Photography was born.

The first pictures that I edited of them, proudly wore my Along the Dirt Road badge.  Then my husband said “Would you want to use something else for photography?”  (Always thinking on the business end, that one.) Hmmmm……..well.  Then my client sent a text and jokingly referred to us as Farmhouse Photography.  Just like that…a new “something” was birthed into existence.

I am in no way claiming to be a pro.  I have oodles and gobs to learn…but I love the way that this shoot turned out.  I love it when my photos tell a story.  It’s the “creative” in me. I think that happened here…and I love it.  I am thankful when the Creator…inspires me to be creative.

Someone asked if I have a blog page for photography. Not yet, but…who knows where this will lead?  Maybe one day.  Right now…I’m just thankful for this one little photo shoot and possibilities.  I’m also excited about all that there is to learn…for Bertha and I. (Bertha is my camera.) Farmhouse Photography…has a nice ring.  Thanks Amanda! 😉

Trying to stay in focus… uh hum….sorry…I couldn’t resist! 😉

p.s.  A huge thank you to my husband’s cousin, Brian, who made my new badge.  He does photography and design and lets me pick his brain.  What more can you ask for? Thanks B.!

Whatcha lookin’ for?

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
