Pollen Gets in Your Eyes

Hello…from the Ozarks. I hope that everyone is well today. Things are coated in green in our neck of the woods. So…although the song says “smoke” pollen does get in your eyes.

I am takin’ it easy today. We cleaned and scrubbed over the weekend, so that is done for a few days. I had a project that I needed to finish for the church, and that is done too. Of course…laundry is chugging. It’s a hobby of mine. πŸ˜‰

On a side note: It’s yard sale season! All the junkers pump their fists. Above are a few treasures from last week. All the heart eyes for kitchen goodies.

(Crate and Barrel)

Whatever you are up to and wherever you are…I hope that the pollen can be parted and you can get on with life. Wear goggles if you must. We won’t laugh. Much. πŸ˜‰

Lol…that’s a golden oldie. This is how it feels when you go to the grocery store around the first of the month in our town. You feel like you are gonna fall to pieces…or pull your hair out.

It feels like everyone and their neighbor comes out of the hills and hollers for a month’s worth of sustenance. Lands a mercy. And you know what? I always forget…until I pull up there. Good gravy, that’s a packed parking lot!

So, my sweet daughter and I waded the crowd. First we made it down the chute at the front door, like a bunch of deranged cattle with carts. Then we rounded the corner to the goodie aisle. (You ALDI shoppers are catching my drift.) We refrained from spending much there…just picked up a swanky little wok spatula. Anyway…we made it out unscathed and even saw a good friend. It was a profitable trip…but downright crazy.

If you head to the store today…don’t fall to pieces. We need you to remain calm. Insanity is overrated. πŸ˜‰

Today, my mom came over. She is precious. She also has shingles. Nothing is touching the pain…so I whipped up a mix of essential oils for her, doctored her sores, and wrapped my arms around her gently, and asked Jesus to help her. She was feeling better in no time. Thank You Jesus!

That is an old picture. Neither one of us has felt that good in a while. I am on the heat pad…as we speak. Anyway…after that…we decided to ride to town to get something to eat…just as we were. Don’t ask. Lol!

We might have looked like that. Ha ha!

Anyway…we did run through the drive thru at “the Dairy Queen.” Chicken basket anyone? On the way back we, of course, hit the dirt road. They are inevitable if you want to get back to our little hillside farm.

We found this beauty, in the spring sunshine.

Dirt road riding is a favorite of mine. It is a means of relaxation. Mom and I have been doing that…my whole life. I am thankful to live on a dirt road. I will trade it for a clean vehicle…any day of the week.

By the way…while I still have you here…I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for reading my few words. Thank you for mentioning to my husband that you read my blog…and thank you for the comments. They mean so much to me. Thank you also for being patient…while I try to get my health back on track. It has been a booger bear the last couple of years. I never knew…but now I know. Compassion fills my heart for those that feel cruddy…every day. Anyway…just thanks. My Dirt Roaders are the best!!!

Hey Guys!  How are you?  It’s been forever and a day…but today…I am back in the saddle again.  I appreciate those of you that continue to stop by to see if I have posted.  That warms my heart. My posts have been a bit spotty over the last several months, as I have concentrated on my health, but I do still love blogging.  Life has a way of bumping us up out of the saddle.  We have to be careful how we land. For those of you that don’t know…my Chiro calls it Fibromyalgia, and Doc calls in nerve related pain.  Whatever you label it…it’s not fun. That being said…life goes on and we have to roll with it. I’m learning to roll…in all of that time that I’m not blogging. *Winky face. Sooooo enough of that…let’s get this party started, shall we?

img_4721

I was slow about getting my fall decor out this year.  It was a very warm, humid, and summery September.  It just didn’t feel like pumpkin spice weather…no matter what Starbucks said. (btw:  We don’t have a Starbucks here…but I do love the PSL at McDonald’s once in a while.) Anyway…it finally cooled off and then warmed back up again. Typical Southern Missouri weather.  I did get out the fall stuff, some of it anyway. We visited the pumpkin patch, (So fun!) and we have been enjoying this cozy time of year. The little pumpkin lights above are so fun.  I found those at Big Lots and I love to turn them on of the evening, while we are all in the family room.  I brought the pine cones up out of the storage room too.  I just love pine cones in our home. So cozy…when you have grown up with pine trees, big and tall, in your front yard.

Okay….so this beauty above. My friend Shannon…found her at a sale the other day.  I’m pretty sure that this little wash stand has been living in someone’s barn.  Shanny called and said “Hey…do you want this?  I already asked my hubby and he said “no.”  lol!  She is a mess…and she knows me very well. At fifteen dollars…I caved.  The Mr. and my mom helped me spiff her up a little on Saturday.  We (he) had to evacuate a spider or two. Gag! Now she sits in the hallway of the Farmhouse in all of her white chippy glory…holding our radio, a lamp, and some twinkle lights in a ball jar. Oh, and also a white pumpkin that the Mr. picked up for me at the grocerystore. ❀  She is perfect.

Now…about that mantle. I have been wanting to do this forever. I have seen this idea on Pinterest…and at Magnolia. (Not in person…although I do have family close to Waco.) Sooo…on Columbus Day…the Mr. and I had an adventure.  We hunted high and low on our place for logs to use in this project.  We came up dry…so Shanny to the rescue again. We dug through their wood pile, then she used her dad’s chop saw. (Now the Mr. has chop saw on his Christmas List.) At this point it needs a few more slices and I am also tucking faux moss between the pieces.  I will show you the finished result. I love it.  It adds lots of coziness to our mantle and our family room.

Then there is this little gem.  I went to a Vintage Junk Trunk show in our town and came home with this little table. I wasn’t sure where to put it…but it’s so  cozy in our kitchen. I’m not big on clutter…and when new things come in I try to take old things out…so we shall see how it goes.  For now though…I love it here. I am told that it’s a little map table. It has folding legs.  Super sweet!

img_4725

I finally filled my wash tubs with pumpkins.  They actually came from ALDI.  They have such good prices on their pumpkins there…that you can’t hardly beat it. Anyway…it’s sure good to visit with you guys again.  I hope that Jesus is blessing your autumn…from your nose to your toes!

I’m still here and blogging. Scouts honor. I was just SICK the first week of Summer Vacay. All the bummers.  I’m talking full blown sinus nasty.  I have a big ol’ whopper of a fever blister to prove it!  Wee-waaaaaah!  Mmmkay.  I’m done whining. This blog is not intended for that. My point is…I’m trying to get in the summertime groove.  How about you all?

I hope that in your neck of the woods things are going great. I hope that you have your garden in the ground and your party light strung up. I hope that you are chilling and not stressing. I am working on all of the above. More content coming soon.

Life is Messy

fibromyalgia, real life

I posted on Instagram today about poop.  Yes…you read that right poop.  We all know about that.  Sometimes when I post a picture on there, I ask the Lord to just lay something on my heart to encourage someone.  Today…the message was a bit messy.  Life is messy isn’t it?

SONY DSC

In the past several months…going on a year now…I have had lots of health issues.  I have had miserable health issues, annoying health issues, and at times…unbearable health issues.  This was all new to me…because for the most part…I was never really bothered with anything like this.  Our family doctor retired…right before this happened…but he recommended a new doctor.  Thankfully my new doctor seems to have me on the right track…and this crazy phenomenon of Firbromyalgia is going to be treated. I had no idea what all could figure into this.  That being said…when I poured my heart and my symptoms out to my new doctor…the nodding of his head was very comforting.  Did you know that too much stress and trauma can break your body down?  Did you know that you need to be kind to your body? Did you know that saying “no” in certain situations is not anti-Christian?  God expects us to use wisdom. All that being said…I am looking forward to feeling better…and focusing on others…not my own situation.  We just had to get it figured out.

Normally, I am not this transparent on this blog.  We talk about fluffing our nests and we talk about cleaning and food and all of the fun stuff in life. I just wanted to share with my sweet and faithful readers.  I haven’t given up blogging and by the grace of God…I will continue to share His love with you.  We all have hard stuff.  We all have messy lives.  We all have a heap of ashes…but God will swap us for beauty every single time.

IMG_2907-0

You guys are amazing and I plan to post something fun and springy and full of sunshine soon.  If you are are in one of the messy phases…you have my love and sympathy. I will leave you with this thought:

“I have decided to be happy…because it’s good for my health.”

How Are You Perkin’?

coffee, fall decor, storms, sunshine, target

How are you perkin’ today friends?  Is it slow going?  Or are you blazing a trail…full speed ahead to Friday? I seem to be plodding a bit lately…but that is better than being totally still, I am told.  I have been drooling (not literally) over this beautiful collection of coffees this morning.  Due to some bladder issues over the past several months, I have had to give up my morning cup.  Never fear though, my friend Brenda and I have found a solution to our acidic problem and it is on it’s way to us in the mail.  Acid neutralized coffee.  Who knew?  Now we do.
Well…enough of that…are you guys perkin’ in the fall dΓ©cor department?  I have had a few thing out for a while.  I may get a second wind and find a few more in a day or two.  I’m waiting about getting anything fresh for the porch.  It’s still pretty warm here…so real pumpkins would have to sit in the sun, on our porch, for quite a while.  Isn’t it so fun though?  I noticed that my husband’s aunt had her “shocks of fodder” out at their house.  That is cornstalks…for those that weren’t raised in the country…or around their grandparents. lol!  It looks so pretty and so “harvesty.”  Spell check loves that one.

I found that little “hello fall” sign at the Dollar Spot at Target.  Isn’t that fun?  I totally agree.  Oh…and in other news (random) I am getting excited about the new iPhone that is coming out tomorrow.  Lots of times now I shoot blog photos with my iPhone because I love the camera and it’s so easy.  The new one has an even better camera…and that makes the creative eye ball in me…twitch with happiness.  Hopefully it will be bug free…as the word on the street is always…”If you get the latest phone it will have bugs.”  Sheesh…spoil our fun whydon’tcha! Anyway…if you have a Target (back on track) go check out all of their fun stuff.  Or…if you are like us…drive and hour and a half…and eat lunch at a really good place while you are out of town. #countrylifeperks

Sometimes when I decorate for fall…I just throw a bunch of faux “punkims” in a basket and call it good. It makes me feel happy every time I walk by and see them.

The last little tidbit that I wanted to leave with you comes from the quote above.  If you aren’t perkin’ too steady, or too strong, or to fast, hang in there.  Sometimes our boats rock and pitch and make us feel sea sick.  The thing about that is…the Master is right there with us…and I read this morning that no weapon formed against us…shall prosper.  The Master is with us on these little side paths…but this is not our destination friends!  Hang in there…sunshine and a bubbling percolator…are just up ahead!

From my heart to yours,

Sigturquoise

Life in the Slow Lane

healthy living

Does that sound like a dream?  Does it sound dreamy?  Are you like “Kel…what planet are you from?”  If you are a mom with lots of little ones running around…you might have just given a big ol’ eye roll.

Life in the slow lane doesn’t have to be a life of ease on the beach somewhere.  In the middle of this crazy, chaotic, sometimes really hard life, it is your choice to switch to the slow lane…or not.

People that drive in the fast lane all the time…are always on the defensive.  They don’t have time to gaze out the window…because they are always passing people. (We tease the Mr. and tell him that he thinks that lane belongs to him.) On the other hand…folks in the slow lane…are just enjoying the journey.  They are also enjoying their regulated blood pressure.

I know that life is busy.  Yesterday we had three church services to attend…and my husband ministered at two of them.  Before all of that…early in the morning…he got a cow in the squeeze chute and gave her shots.  (Ox in the ditch.) I’m not complaining or bragging…it’s all for  the Lord.  Even the cow…because ultimately she belongs to God.  I am just saying that we understand…busy.

Fast forward to after church last night.  Where could you find us?  We switched over to the slow lane.  We were at the Tropical Sno booth.  Why?  It was time to take a break.  It was time to slow down a bit.  This is a learned way of life.  It doesn’t usually come naturally.  It’s easier to stay busy and in turn wear ourselves thin.  Switching to the slow lane…is actually using wisdom. Did you know that Jesus totally approves of that?  He does.

So…sweet one…that is burned out, tired out, cried out, whatever…take a little time for you today.  Be kind to yourself.  Ease over into the slow lane for a bit. Take a deep breath and let go…even if it’s just for a few minutes.  Heaven approves…and really…that is the main thing.

See you at the snow cone booth,

Kelli

Do you love to shop at the feed store? I haven’t been out much this summer, due to some health issues, but I went to our local feed store today.  I can always find something there.

Today…I walked away with two tee shirts, (All proceeds go to St. Jude.) a new Lodge grill pan, a super snazzy book about canning, and some Two Old Goats. (That is natural muscle rub. Won-der-ful.) lol…Usually I don’t make that big of a haul…but my birthday is nearing.  I was making the Mr.’s life a little easier. Oh yeah, cattle wormer…but that wasn’t for me.

If you haven’t guessed it…I would shop the feed store…before the mall.  That’s just me.  All while wearing Versace perfume.  No…they don’t sell that at the feed store…unfortunately.  πŸ˜‰

I hope that your Thursday has been a good one.  Jesus loves us…Dirt Roaders!

Now….after a trip to our Chiro…it’s time for Two Old Goats.

I hope that your Tuesday is easy and breezy.

I hope that everything falls into place and you find time to just…enjoy.

I hope that you get an extra cherry in your shake at Sonic.

I hope that you get an extra fry in your box at McDonalds.

I hope that you get an extra squirt of syrup at the snow cone stand.

(I don’t recommend eating all of that in one day.)

I hope that today is easy breezy.  You deserve it.

I hope that you are first to the trough. (That one is for all of you livestock that read this blog.)
