Gumdrops falling on my head…

30 Friday Nov 2012

Hey Guys.  I usually don’t post on the weekends but I wanted to show you the new, little changes to the blog.  Plus, I thought that I would share my gumdrops with you.  I would…literally…if I could, but I can’t.  Sooooo I will share my gumdrops…well…visually.  🙂  They are nestled in a bed of,  you guessed it, Epsom salts.  Do you recognize the butter dish?  Of course you do.  It’s the one that used to have the tiny pumpkins (putka pods) in it.  I just love that little dish.  (Thanks a billion, Shanny!)  I freeze my candy from year to year.  It keeps wonderfully that way.  Of course, I only decorate with it.  We don’t eat the candy that has been in the freezer all of these years. So…I wouldn’t really share these gumdrops if you were here.  I would buy you new ones.  I’m just nice that way.  😉

SONY DSC

I hope that you like the new color.  I love…lovity…love it.  (Of course you probably knew that I would.  It’s turquoise after all.  😉

Have fun, Dirt Roaders!  Enjoy that weekend.

Get your wreath on!

Hey Dirt Road Peeps!  We made it to Friday.  High fives and fist pounds all around.  There ya go!  Sooooooooo….who has their Christmas wreath on the door.  I do…I do…pick me…pick me. 😉  But then you probably knew that I would.  I can’t stand to let my door go “nakey.”  It ALWAYS has a wreath on it.  It’s a weakness of mine.  The only time it doesn’t have a wreath on it are those times when we have hurricane like winds up on the hill.  That can be scary.  Mainly because the only body of water that we live close to…is a pond.  It’s just bad- crazy wind sometimes.  Enough to make us give up wreaths on the outsides of the windows.  We like to sleep at night.  Is that so wrong?????  😉 (The wreaths were too noisy.)

Okay…enough babbling.  Sheesh Kel.  Enough already.  Give these poor people a break.  (It’s getting bad folks…I’m talking to myself…in front of you.)  😉  I’m gonna show you a picture of this year’s wreath.  I used my “burlap” wreath from fall, some old ribbon and old ornaments.  I love it. EXCEPT…I didn’t realize that all of the green ones were kinda….all in a row…until I edited this picture.  But…because no one is perfect….I’m not going to fix it and take another picture.  Let’s just say that this is my tribute to a more laid back Christmas than years past.

May you have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Road friends.  I think that we may find our real tree for the kids and put lights outside.  I will let you know how that goes.  Now…go love life…and land’s sakes…leave me a comment.  😉

The Three Amigos

Well hi!  I hope that your Thursday is off to a fine start.  I wanted to share with you a tad more in the Epsom salt vein.  The Three Amigos in this post are actually my very pretty, little glass candle holders.  They were a steal at a junk store.  I am so glad that I spotted them.  Especially at Christmas time.  They can hold all kinds of things.  This year though, it’s the salts and red Christmas balls.  I just love them.  So simple…yet bright and cheery.  That’s what we love, right?  Right.

I would love for you all out there to share some of your ideas with me.  I love..lovity…love your comments.  I’m waiting……..;)

Happy Thursday, Dirt Roadikins.  Go out and reach for the stars…or at least some glitter. 😉

Winter wonderland or laxative?

Ha!  I know..I know…you are thinking…”Did I just read that right?”  “Is this really the title of her post?”  Yes, my friends, you did and it is.  Today I just wanted to put you on to the joys of Epsom salts.  I’m actually talking about using them as “snow” in your home…um…not the other.  Who doesn’t want to transform their home into a winter wonderland?  Who wants to talk about laxatives today? Okay….no hands on either.  Let’s talk snow.

You know a few years ago, someone gave me a bag of that flaky, fake snow that looked kinda like shredded coconut.  I still use it.  It is very pretty.  Then…somewhere I came upon the fact that people use Epsom salts in their apothecary jars.  How awesome is that?  If you are of the branch of people who don’t really know much about Epsom salts,( like I was, I thought that a good foot soak was their only quality) they actually look like big sugar crystals.  They are fairly cheap and make very pretty snow.  Who knew that magnesium sulfate could be so beautiful?  Someone did.

I loved the way that this picture turned out so it’s the only one that I’m posting today. I will share the other jars later.

Have a wonderful day, Dirt Roaders.  Let it snow…let it snow…let it snow.

p.s. I mentioned that the salts were fairly cheap.  I paid four and then three dollars at some different places and then saw them at Wal-Mart for like…eighty-eight cents! Next time…I WILL KNOW!  😉

Mantle, mantle, on the wall…..

27 Tuesday Nov 2012

Okay friends.  Here it is.  The moment that you’ve been waiting for.  The little project that I keep mentioning. You see…I had this brainstorm.  Sometimes this is a good thing.  Sometimes…it’s sadly…um…not.  Never fear…this one was good.  It involves our mantle that I love, lovity, love!  It’s old and the paint is chipped and it has tons of character.  It just doesn’t have a fireplace underneath it.  That bothers some people.  It does not bother me.  I usually hang a wreath in the opening.

Enter: Original idea that got tossed.

First I thought that I wanted to have the Mr. cut a piece of plywood and then paint it black.  Then we would glue tons of round pieces of logs on it to make it look like a fireplace with logs stacked in it. (Thank you Pinterest.)  If you haven’t ever seen this you oughta check it out.  It is really very cool.  The only thing was…the lack of a tree that size to cut…which I was not giving up on, but then I had this other idea that was not only easy but awesome, if I do say so myself. (The Mr. probably prayed for a change of heart! lol!)

Enter: Idea that makes my little heart happy.

I am proud to say that I actually thought this one up before I even knew that people do this.  I thought…”Hey why not paint that board with black chalkboard paint and then I could write cute stuff  on it.?”  So…I peeked on Pinterest just to see if people even do this.  THEY DO.  I was really stoked then.  There is so much out there with chalkboards.  Have you guys ever checked out Miss Mustard Seed’s blog?  She is awesome with chalkboards.  Anyway…I hope that you like it.  I love it.  I am very pleased.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, Dirt Roaders.  Now go forth and do projects.

Turkey Overdose

26 Monday Nov 2012

As I sit here this morning, Mr. Henry…the rooster…is crowing his lungs out.  I wonder if he realizes how fortunate he is to be a chicken instead of a turkey?  Probably not but I am glad for him.  I like the guy.  He has spunk.  He has self-confidence.  He has twelve wives.  My.  He probably feels a little like Solomon of old.  Why am I talking about this?  I have no idea.  Maybe all of that turkey got to my brain somehow.  I hope so.  I’m thinking that I have read that turkey is full of serotonin.  The chemical that does good stuff in your brain.  Who doesn’t need good stuff in their brain? I need lots of good stuff in my brain.  Especially today.  The ladies from our church are coming for Bible study tonight.  We are not having turkey.  (btw:  Sweet MIL…your turkey was wonderful…along with all the rest of the food.)  Whew….that was a close one.  😉

So…I mentioned that my girls were coming over.  That being said…guess what I started doing on Thanksgiving night?  Yep.  I gathered up all of my precious little pumpkins and put them away.  Then I started the ol’ Christmas decor.  My husband helped do the heavy lifting.  What a man…what a man.  (He also reads my blog….xoxoxoxo!) I cannot wait to show you what we did with the mantle. I will save that for another day….soon…I promise.

I hope that you had a mahvalous Thankgiving…Dahling Dirt Roaders.  I’m going to leave you with a little “Christmas past” for today.  I promise to have “Christmas present” up and running…and share with you, the fun stuff that has been going on…soon.

Isn’t Christmas fun?

Are you feeling festive yet?  It’s feeling a little festive in our neck of the woods.  I’m going to take the week off from blogging but I wanted to leave you with a Thanksgiving wish from us.

May you hug your family up close, have full tummies and feel peace and thankfulness in your hearts.  May the love of Christ warm you from the inside out.  Sending love this Thanksgiving from our dirt road to yours.

And………apothecary.

You did it!  It’s Friday.  I will wait a sec while you do your happy dance.  Da dum…dum..dum…dee…dee…dum….. Are ya done?  Okay.  Here we go.  😉  So apothecary jars!  I love them.  So much.  Did I tell you that,  last year…when I was taking my big one off of the hutch that I dropped the lid and it hit me on the head?  OUCHNESS! It then went along on its journey to the floor.  Yeah….no more lid.  Anyway, yesterday I was out and about and I found another one to kinda replace my broken one.  EVERYONE knows that you must have three!  I also happened upon an amazing piece of old ceiling tile.  I will share that with you…when I get it on the wall.  For now…enjoy with me…the newest member of my apothecary jar family.  I shall call her Squatty.  (Okay….I know…but I’m crackin’ myself up with that one. 😉 )

Have a wonderful Friday, Sweet Dirt Roaders!  It’s almost Thanksgiving!

To the woman who made this all possible…

You’ve seen this picture before and you might see it again.

This woman was just a kid of a girl when I came into her life.

She is amazing.  She is kind.  She is generous.  She has taught me so many things that make me what I am.  She is the one that I was blessed to come from and for this I am truly thankful. She provided me with a cozy little “apartment” for nine months.  She made sure that I had that crazy, baby curl going on, on top of my head.  She would hold my hand while she was driving down the road and we  would be singing to the tops of our lungs.  She told me to not be afraid when it was storming and we were in the car.  (Rubber tires…you know..will keep the lightning from getting us.)  Fast forward several years.  She held me while I cried when I lost our first baby. I think that she cried even harder than I did.  I laid by her in the motel bed in Memphis and listened to her snore…when my brother was diagnosed with leukemia.  She was so tired.  She is strong.  So strong.  I don’t know if I have ever met a woman who is a strong as she is. She loves her family from way down deep.  My brother and I talk about her…with smiles on our faces because she is our crazy, wild and wonderful mother.  We also celebrate the fact that she is learing to text.  Ha!  We just love her…enough said.

Except this:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA!

Have a wonderful November 15th, Dirt Road Friends.  It’s a wonderful date in history. 🙂

Crock-a-doodle-doo!

Okay…okay…sorry for the corniness.  I just couldn’t resist. I know that yesterday we talked about Christmas a tad, but today we are going to just flip-flop back a bit to the everyday stuff.  I just wanted to share with you one of my favorite things. (Not a few…just one. 🙂 )  I have had this crock for a few years.  We actually found it at a yard sale. If I’m not mistaken, the Mr. bargained with them on it.  It has a hole drilled in the bottom, sadly, because someone used it outside.  I did that too,  for a while and then one day….ding…ding…ding….I brought that baby in the house (after I hosed it down) and now it resides in our entryway.  I love it.  Even though it’s all chippy and looks like it came over on the Mayflower.  (Ahhhh….a Thanksgiving/Pilgrim reference. ha!)  It generally holds a blanket…but when it’s time to decorate for Christmas it holds a flocked Alpine tree.  Adorbs. (Don’t tell my teenage daughter that I just said that.)  It’s just all cozy and homey and woodsy with that tree in it.  I will have to show you what I mean…right after Thanksgiving.  😉

It makes you wonder about all of the goodies that this was used for….back in the day.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, Dirt Roaders!  You are halfway through the week.  You can do it!  btw: I love your comments…..don’t be shy!
