Hey Friends!!! I come to you with lots of well wishes for a wonderful holiday! Ours will be a bit different this year…like everything else…but we will still celebrate the Savior of the world.

So this is Christmas…

You know…this year we hung a few wreaths on the fence posts and gate…and decorated a little cedar at the bottom of the hill. It was as much for all the neighbors as for us. It was so fun!

If you look closely you can see the farmhouse through there.

This year has been full of simple things. Basic things. Things of necessity. I’m okay with that. I think that it makes us take a look at what is really important.

The Mister and I celebrated twenty five years this year! We had a Christmas wedding so we always get to take a minute apart this time of year. It was a beautiful night at a trout ranch. The food was so good and the company was even better. Silver Anniversary during a pandemic? Party of two, please.

I hope that all of your celebrations whether big or small turn out peaceful and happy this year. We have had joy and sadness…but we are going to try our best come Christmas morning to celebrate Jesus.

So this is Christmas.

Love from the Farmhouse,

Kelli

p.s Our daughter and I snuck away for a junking break yesterday. Here’s a sneak peek of what we found:

So fun!!!

p.p.s. Okay…carry on then. Lol!

Hey Guys!  How are you?  It’s been forever and a day…but today…I am back in the saddle again.  I appreciate those of you that continue to stop by to see if I have posted.  That warms my heart. My posts have been a bit spotty over the last several months, as I have concentrated on my health, but I do still love blogging.  Life has a way of bumping us up out of the saddle.  We have to be careful how we land. For those of you that don’t know…my Chiro calls it Fibromyalgia, and Doc calls in nerve related pain.  Whatever you label it…it’s not fun. That being said…life goes on and we have to roll with it. I’m learning to roll…in all of that time that I’m not blogging. *Winky face. Sooooo enough of that…let’s get this party started, shall we?

img_4721

I was slow about getting my fall decor out this year.  It was a very warm, humid, and summery September.  It just didn’t feel like pumpkin spice weather…no matter what Starbucks said. (btw:  We don’t have a Starbucks here…but I do love the PSL at McDonald’s once in a while.) Anyway…it finally cooled off and then warmed back up again. Typical Southern Missouri weather.  I did get out the fall stuff, some of it anyway. We visited the pumpkin patch, (So fun!) and we have been enjoying this cozy time of year. The little pumpkin lights above are so fun.  I found those at Big Lots and I love to turn them on of the evening, while we are all in the family room.  I brought the pine cones up out of the storage room too.  I just love pine cones in our home. So cozy…when you have grown up with pine trees, big and tall, in your front yard.

Okay….so this beauty above. My friend Shannon…found her at a sale the other day.  I’m pretty sure that this little wash stand has been living in someone’s barn.  Shanny called and said “Hey…do you want this?  I already asked my hubby and he said “no.”  lol!  She is a mess…and she knows me very well. At fifteen dollars…I caved.  The Mr. and my mom helped me spiff her up a little on Saturday.  We (he) had to evacuate a spider or two. Gag! Now she sits in the hallway of the Farmhouse in all of her white chippy glory…holding our radio, a lamp, and some twinkle lights in a ball jar. Oh, and also a white pumpkin that the Mr. picked up for me at the grocerystore. ❤  She is perfect.

Now…about that mantle. I have been wanting to do this forever. I have seen this idea on Pinterest…and at Magnolia. (Not in person…although I do have family close to Waco.) Sooo…on Columbus Day…the Mr. and I had an adventure.  We hunted high and low on our place for logs to use in this project.  We came up dry…so Shanny to the rescue again. We dug through their wood pile, then she used her dad’s chop saw. (Now the Mr. has chop saw on his Christmas List.) At this point it needs a few more slices and I am also tucking faux moss between the pieces.  I will show you the finished result. I love it.  It adds lots of coziness to our mantle and our family room.

Then there is this little gem.  I went to a Vintage Junk Trunk show in our town and came home with this little table. I wasn’t sure where to put it…but it’s so  cozy in our kitchen. I’m not big on clutter…and when new things come in I try to take old things out…so we shall see how it goes.  For now though…I love it here. I am told that it’s a little map table. It has folding legs.  Super sweet!

img_4725

I finally filled my wash tubs with pumpkins.  They actually came from ALDI.  They have such good prices on their pumpkins there…that you can’t hardly beat it. Anyway…it’s sure good to visit with you guys again.  I hope that Jesus is blessing your autumn…from your nose to your toes!

ball jars, chili, curtains, rain

Hey all! How are we doing on this Thursday morning? I am toodling along. Laundry is going, plans for supper are made, and now I’m sitting down with you. Just a visit from the farmhouse today.

I posted the above shot to my IG feed this morning. Those jars always delight my eyes. It could be the turquoise color…or maybe the old lids. Probably both.

It’s supposed to rain in SoMo today. We all voted for a big ol’ Crock Pot of chili, for supper tonight. Can you tell that we are anxious for fall weather? Our pastures can use the rain. I am thankful for the forecast today.

I hope that you guys have a wonderful day! I hope to post my cloth napkin turned curtains…if I can ever get them to meet my standards. Lol! I am a bit picky with window treatments. (They make me crazy!)

Bath and Body Works, farmhouse style, june, junking

Here in Southern Missouri…June 1st is a bit soggy. If you look at the forecast…it’s rain for years. That being said we are glad that you are back June, you ol’ thang. One request though: A few sunny days for swimming? Mmmkay. Thanks!

So…now that you have the weather report, how about some junking news?  Yesterday, I was at one of our little “honey holes” and treated myself. I have been admiring this little salt crock for awhile. It’s old, well-loved, and perfect. She even came down a bit on it. That is always a bonus. These days I am picky about the finds that I bring home. This one though…is a keeper.

Okay, so, did you know that Bath and Body Works have made some of their classic scents available again? They sure have. I ordered Sun Ripened Raspberry this morning.(I am sold on their body cream in any scent.) Eeeeeep!  How fun is that?  I have missed that scent. It was probably my very favorite!  Plus today…they have a code for free shipping. Aaaaand…It was buy two get one free!!! You totally needed to know. Totally cool. (My daughters are rolling their eyes and barfing. Wait…what am I saying?  They won’t read this! I can say what I want!!!) TOTALLY! Lol!

(This is the “retro” packaging. They have amped it up a bit. Cause you know…it’s not 1995.)

Okay…enough of that. I hope that you guys have a wonderful evening.  Leave me a big, fat, comment. I love to read them. My readers are the best.

Spring Break

Are you guys on Spring Break in your area?  We started on Monday and it’s always a welcomed break.  No bedtime routine, no homework, no hurried mornings.  I enjoy every break with the kids though.  I’m that crazy mom that hopes and prays for snow days during the winter too.  It’s just a good feeling when the chicks are in the nest.

I have been doing a bit of spring decorating around the Farmhouse. My mom and family usually come to our house on Easter…so it’s fun to have a few things out.  Plus, after winter…a bit of bright and cheery feels so good!  This will be Sweetie Pie Muffin Man’s first Easter.  (My nephew.  Yes…I give everyone a nickname/moniker.) How sweet is that?

This picture was taken in the evening, as you can tell, so the light wasn’t the greatest.  I was gifted with  a new scale (scales) though and “needed” to post it on IG.  My granny is blown away by the fact that I would want something like this in our home.  lol!  The older set cannot wrap their minds around us junkin’ women,  and our love of old, rusty, chippy, things. (I guess if your aren’t into farmhouse style…you probably can’t either.  Don’t fall out with me. You are not old. lol!) Another thing about this shot…my hand is in it.  Oh well…you win some…you lose some…and sometimes you just get a ribbon for participation. Ha!

Some days…you just have to go through your things and rearrange a bit.  Mom and I call this “piddling.”

Turquoise Ball jars are one of my favorite things.  So simple and beautiful.

I hope that your Wednesday is going great and that you are finding a little time this winter to organize…but also to rest.  Winter is good for that.

Trusting and Junking

God's love, junking, trusting, vintage

Last night in our mid-week service, our pastor’s wife talked about the verse above.  It’s found in the book of Proverbs in the Bible, chapter 3, verses 5-6.  It was wonderful.  I needed to hear that.  This is the verse that we had inscribed on my dad’s stone.  It’s also the only verse that I know of that he memorized.  He read his Bible each day…but quoting wasn’t one of his things.  This lesson was balm to my heart.  I just needed it for lots of areas in my life.  I’m sure that most people do.  Life is beautiful and wonderful and I live in awe of it…but it is also hard.  Even in that…God is so very good.  Expecting good things…I believe that God wants us to do that.  Trusting…comes into play there.

Now…about the junking.  Isn’t this little guy so sweet?  I’m not sure why I have been so drawn to these little vintage dogs of late.  I think that it might be the era.  I love vintage prints, especially with trees. (I got one of those too…I will have to show you…soon.)  This little guy reminds me of a doggy that is on my Granddad’s dresser. His grandma bought it for him, when he was a little boy, I do believe.  I love things like that.  This one is actually a bank.  His head comes off…so you can get the money out.  Something is missing from his collar…but I still love him.  His crackly goodness is very appealing to this vintage-loving soul.

Have you been needing to trust a little more lately?  Sometimes fear rises up…and tells us all sorts of bad things.  Trusting God…helps us take a deep breath.  We all need that…don’t we?  What about junking?  Have you found any treasures like the two dollar dog?  I would love to hear about either subject.  Leave me a comment and I will try to get back to you.

Have a wonderful Thursday, sweet Dirt Roaders,

Sigturquoise

Heads Up…New Header

As you guys know, I tend to change up the blog a bit now and then.  I did a mini photo shoot and came up with a new shot for the header.  I just didn’t want you to think that you were at the wrong place.  Just kidding.  You guys are smart. So…let’s talk about the junk that is featured in the header.

cropped-header.jpg

First of all, I adore the badge for Along the Dirt Road.  Our cousin created that when I first started blogging and it is exactly me.  I love a simple and clean cut design.  He pegged it…totally.  Okay…so as far as the junk goes…I just added a few of my favorite things.  I love the old locker baskets.  I have had a thing for baskets for many years. (Can anyone say Longaberger? 😉  I love the metal ones…a lot.  Then we have a turquoise Ball jar.  Those have had my heart for many years too.  Then we have the vintage print.  I just love those.  There is something very dreamy about the prints from this era.  This one sort of reminds me of an old western….like The Big Valley…or something.  The last vintage piece in the header, is the little dog that I ordered on Ebay.  When he came in the mail, his little leg was broken.  The Mr. fixed him up right away.  I just think that he is adorable.  (The dog and The Mr.)

I have a couple of things up there that are not vintage, but I love them as well.  The first is the faux succulent that The Mr. gifted me for Valentine’s day.  The second is the baker’s twine from Pick Your Plum.  Their baker’s twine is the absolute best of any that I have seen.  (No…this is not a paid post.)  It is very durable, plus the rolls are huge.  If you don’t know much about Pick Your Plum…look them up.  They have daily deals that are sent to your email.  They have a HUGE selection of all different kinds of things.  Sometimes you have to be quick though.  I tried to order a maxi skirt one day and it was already sold out in like 14 minutes!  What!!!!????

Tootsies and Tweetsies

Lately it has been my pleasure to feature local places on the blog. I love to support the folks in our community. My dad was the town locksmith for years…so our family realizes the triumph and trial of owning a business. Today I wanted to spotlight another “honey hole” that I love to visit. Tootsies and Tweetsies. They have a lovely store and tea room…which I have not tried yet…but need to.

IMG_0381.JPG

My husband and I agree that the variety that they have is great. They have a mix of new and vintage. They have things for men and women. (Yes…I drug my husband along. He is a good sport when it comes to junking. I think he enjoys the hunt and my childlike excitement. Love him!)

I plan to buy local for Christmas this year…good Lord willing. I am also thinking on making some things to tuck in here or there. My Mr. bought a new sewing machine for me and I am excited to fire it up!

I am going to let the picture tell the rest of Tootsies and Tweetsies story. A wonderful little place. You don’t want to miss it!

Antiques + Me = Rapid Heartbeat

21 Thursday Aug 2014

Are you crazy like me?  Do you love antiques?  What is my deal with old stuff?  Maybe it’s because I stayed with my grandparents and great-grandparents a lot as a child.  I love home decor that tells a story.  That is the reason that antiques + me = rapid heartbeat.

SONY DSC

When I was still in high school, I had my very first job.  I worked at a title company.  I also worked with the owner’s mother.  We called her Old Mum.  That was what her grandkids called her so…we all did too. She and I became dear friends. (Are we seeing a pattern here?)  Anyway, Old Mum and I would go to the antique mall on our lunch hour or just for a break now and then.  I love the way that she described antiques that had little spots or blemishes.  She said that they were “well loved.”  I have adopted that term myself.

SONY DSC

My step-mom gave me a delightful gift for my birthday.  A vintage feed sack.  It was her great-grandmother’s.  Isn’t that wonderful!? I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do with it yet.  For now I just gaze at it and pet it.  lol! She and my mom both suggested framing it.  That would be really neat.  Our pastor’s wife suggested draping it over a curtain rod.  I had thought of that too.  All of my mothers…and their wisdom. 😉

SONY DSC

I hope that you get to do a bit of junking this week, if you love that sort of thing.  I also hope that you slow down, look around, and realize that the love of God is so big…that we can never fathom just how much that He really loves us.

Happy antiquing,

Sigturquoise
