mmmMonday!

Hey all!  Hope that your weekend was relaxing.  Ours was….sorta.  The girls baked for a big portion of the day on Saturday. I cleaned in the basement.  That is a good/icky thing.  😉  You feel good when it’s done….it’s just that it’s icky…trying to make yourself do it.  I’m working on crossing it off of my January Purge list though.  I had better hurry, January has almost come and gone.  We also had a little guy with an ouchy ear and a big guy with an ouchy neck.  😦 😦 Let’s get back to the mmmMonday! part…shall we?  That will perk this “thang” up a bit.

SONY DSC

So…I mentioned that the girls were baking.  They got a wild hair and decided that they wanted to make sugar cookies.  Not the easy kind.  No…not my girls.  They don’t want “cheater cookies” that you break and bake. (Like I suggested.)  Plus…they didn’t want my tried and true “roll ’em in a ball and smash ’em with a glass” recipe.  They wanted the kind that you roll out and cut out. (Of course.)  So…I wasn’t sure where I had gotten that recipe before. They consulted Martha.  She always has the recipe you need.  (If it’s complicated enough. Just kidding Martha.) 😉 This is where you can find the recipe.

I was so proud of them.  They are quite the little bakers in training.  (Their husbands will love me…someday…very far away.)  Their cookies were beautiful.  Okay…I would say that even if they looked horrid…because they came from MY kangaroo pouch…but really they were adorable.  Of course we had hearts.  Our little guy even got in there and decorated one in “camo.”  They made one for Daddy too.  Of course I was proud of the turquoise.  Turquoise….is just the color of….happy.  Happy… was how I was feeling when they even cleaned up their mess. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SONY DSC

So anyway…when the Mr. dumped out the soup that I was going to take pictures of and feature today (He didn’t know that I was going to do that.)…my oldest said “How bout using our cookies?”  Great point, Girlfriend.  I believe that I will. mmmMonday! will be beautiful this week.  Full of sprinkles.

What do we find along the dirt road?

Sometimes along the dirt road you find treasures.  Sometimes you find trash.  Then sometimes…you find critters.

coon

My little guy enjoyed this post. I hope that your little guys and gals do too. 🙂

This little guy or girl was actually sitting on our deck rail one morning.  Our dogs were going crazy…barking at it…and wouldn’t let it down.  I think that the poor little coon looks stressed.  I would be.

Maybe the coon is thinking “Ahhh….It’s Friday and as soon as I get away from these nutty dogs….let the good times roll!”  Or it could be thinking….”I’m about to have a heart attack.”  Can you see it’s little “hand” on its chest?

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Roaders.  May you find treasures or critters along your dirt road…no trash.  😉

Winter Wreath

Hey Sweet Dirt Roaders!  How is Thursday treating you so far?  You have made it!  One more day until the weekend.  I always think of my aunt Jo when we talk about counting down.  She works hard to support her family and she is ready for a break.  I don’t blame her!

So…let’s talk winter wreath!  You know…I couldn’t remember for sure if I had shared this with you.  Then I remembered why.  I had shared it on Instagram…not here.  This wreath is soooooo simple.  I think that I actually got the idea for the ice skate in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine.  Don’t they just pack their magazine with all kinds of fun stuff?  I thought that you would agree.  😉

SONY DSC

This wreath is made with what looks like burlap.  (Of course we are all nuts for burlap….except the lady at the material counter at Wal-Mart.  She can’t understand the sudden craze and she said that she thinks that it stinks.  She oughta smell it under a hot iron.  PEEEEE U!)  This is really kind of like Poly Mesh.  You know…the stuff that is all over Pinterest for wreath making.  This kind has a papery feel to it though.  I love it.  I have actually had it up since fall…and just changing out the decor on it for the season. So far though…the winter wreath…might just be my fav.

SONY DSC

I love home decor that you can revamp. 🙂

May the Lord above bless you from the crowns of your sweet heads…to the soles of your dusty feet, Dirt Roaders.

p.s.  I’m gonna be working on my January Purge list.  Pray saints….pray.  😉

Get in gear Valentine!

My. Word.  Everyone in Blogland is gearing up for Valentine’s Day…except me.  I have no good excuse.  Not really.  I mean, I usually don’t put up tons of Valentine’s Day decor…but come on Kel….this is Blogland we are talking about.  That being said…Get in gear Valentine…is directed at yours truly.  The project that you are about to see is for your viewing pleasure…just because I care.  (Plus…I thought that my family would think that it was pretty cool.  😉 )

I've had this little mailbox for quite a while. It came in handy for this little project.

I found this vintage valentine in an antique dresser that we bought.

mmmMonday! on Tuesday!

So how was your weekend? The Mr. and the kids were off for yesterday’s holiday. Yay! I love…lovity…love long weekends. We really enjoyed getting to spend extra time just relaxing. We also had a nice lunch with friends. That always makes life better. Sooooooo…that is the reason that I was slacking a little yesterday. (You weren’t far from my thoughts.) You are flexible, my wonderful readers, so we are having mmmMonday! on Tuesday! this week.

SONY DSC

This probably isn’t something that you would fix your family for supper. Breakfast and lunch would probably be your best bet. My friend Jenny told me about this little healthy treat that she has sometimes. Please…don’t knock it until you try it. It is really so very wonderful. It tastes so naughty…but it really very good for you. Besides…didn’t Elvis like peanut butter and bananas? See…we are throwing a little “Love Me Tender” in there. mmmMonday! on Tuesday…just got better.

SONY DSC

I need one of these…NOW!

Jenny and Elvis’ Peanut Butter/Banana/Honey Toast 🙂

1 slice of whole wheat bread
a smidgen of peanut butter
1 banana
a drizzle of honey

Directions: Toast your bread, add your smidgen of peanut butter, slice your banana and stick on there and then….and only then…drizzle it with honey. Your taste buds will thank you all day long.

Delish!

Delish!

Happy Tuesday, Dirt Roaders. I hope that it’s wonderful and I hope that you enjoy this little treat from mmmMonday! on Tuesday!

A little birdie told me…

What did a little birdie tell me?

A little birdie told me that it didn’t want to be put away with the Christmas decor.  I agree.  I think that he looks stunning on the mantle wreath.

SONY DSC

I’m not really sure why I decided to leave the birds out this year.  Maybe because they are white…and I love white.  When we first built our home I was afraid that I had too much.  Nah.  We’re good. Keep it coming.

SONY DSC

The other day I was visiting over at Thistlewood Farm.  Karianne is delightful. You guys would love her.  Anyway, she was making the most precious little birds.  So bright and cheery.  Bright and cheery is good in the winter.

I hope that you have a wonderful day and an amazing weekend, Dirt Roaders.  Now…go forth and………enjoy.

p.s.  Today is my 100th post!  I know…I know…such a baby blogger.  😉  Thank you, to all of you that are riding with me….along the dirt road.

What a Pear!

Hey Guys!  Thank you for stopping by yesterday.  I was so excited to show you the hutch…and my husband kept saying “Your people are going to love this.”  lol!  He was right.  Thank you…thank you…thank you….my people. (That was said in a low, leader-type voice.)  Sooooo anyway, we are talking pears today.  Have you seen them everywhere?  Have you seen them anywhere?  I have.  Thus….What A Pear!

Pears just seem to be a classy looking fruit.  Have you noticed that?  (I’m full of questions today.) I see them in Blogland, I see them at my favorite decorating store in our town.  I am getting ready to make a run to this wonderful store just a ways from us, to see if they have any of the bright green ones.  BTW:  You heard it here first…or maybe not…but I have it on good authority that GREEN is the color for 2013.  I heard it straight from the horses mouth…well…she isn’t a horse and doesn’t resemble one, she is actually very pretty. (I hope that she isn’t reading my blog.)  I also read online somewhere, that emerald-green is the color.  I’m okay with that.  I love bright, moss-green.  I think that I got sidetracked.  All of you women are still with me…but we lost the men somewhere back there.  Sorry guys.  😉  Pears!  There we are…back on track.  Pears are pretty.  I’m done.

I found these little pear bowls at Big Lots also. Aren't they fun?

I love you, Dirt Roaders.  I hope that you have a wonderful day.  Run to the nearest store and buys some pears! (Only if it is in your budget.  If not…look at the junk store.)  Real or fake, they are elegant and beautiful.  (Father…You do good work…and I love You…undescribable. Amen.)

Drumroll please…

Here it is.  My five dollar hutch makeover!  I am not kidding you.  Drumroll please…

Okay…just a minute.  Maybe I should explain how this happened.  Last week I went to Big Lots to grab a pillow that I had seen the day before and didn’t buy.  It’s so cute.  It’s the French grain sack type.  (Awesome find.) Do you love Big Lots?  I do.  Sometimes when I’m there…I come upon these amazing finds.  Okay…so we have established my love for Big Lots…let’s move on. Drumroll please…

SONY DSC

Our hutch in it’s original glory.

So, here I am toodling around in the back of the store and I come upon a Waverly vinyl table-cloth.  It was a beautiful blue and white Moroccan print. FIVE American dollars!  I’m not really sure when the lightbulb came on but it was this divine moment.  I mean glowing light..and harps and all.  Okay, not so much, but I was really excited.  I decided that I was going to, very sweetly, ask the Mr. to help me with a little DIY.  I wanted to measure this table-cloth, cut it and put it in the back of the hutch.  (I have seen this in Blogland and can you say…..SCHA-NA-ZEE? That is snazzy to you normal people.) Drumroll please…

SCORE!

SCORE!

My hutch has a long story about two young people with a little blonde headed child.  They were so excited in a furniture store…once upon a time.  I have seriously thought about getting rid of it and going with a buffet, but I am a tad on the sentimental side.  It’s not a high dollar piece…but I still love it.  I revamped it a little…by painting the oak with some white paint that we already had.  The Mr. also had some glue that we used to put the table cloth on. Thus…a five dollar hutch makeover.  Drumroll please…

SONY DSC

Bye bye blonde.

I’m going to let the pictures do the rest of the talking for me.  Let me know what you think.  I would love to hear your comments.  Have a wonderful day, Dirt Roadies. You are the best!

All white....love..lovity..love!

All white….love..lovity..love!

A more patient Mr., I have never know.

All done. Ain’t she pretty? 😉 I love Miss Mustard Seed….she inspired my little hanging wreath.

Very pleased with the results of my five dollar project.

mmmMonday!

SONY DSC

Hey Friends.  How was your weekend?  Ours was fun.  Our Friday night adventure was a little trip  to a very small neighboring town.  They have a little fish house there, by the river.  It was wonderfully quaint.  Right up my…dirt road…alley. Just a really great time with family.  Saturday had a DIY project thrown in. ( I will show you later in the week.)  Sunday was a wonderful day of worship and relaxation.  Blessings abound and I am very thankful.  So…that brings us to mmmMonday! Are you ready?  I sure am.  mmmMonday! is helping me get fired back up in the foodie department.  🙂  I was feeling a little bored in my kitchen and that is NEVER good at our house.

So last week was our very first mmmMonday! post.  That night when I had my plate fixed I grabbed my camera and snapped a picture for you guys.  Isn’t that nice?  Yeah…I know…that is just how I am.  🙂 Anyway, I am trying to lighten up our meals a tad after all of that holiday food, and this was what I came up with.  It was very good. To give credit…where credit is due, I saw a version of this in my Food Network magazine.  (One of my little treats to myself.  Love…lovity…love that magazine.)

SONY DSC

So, this is so easy.  No recipe required…because it’s really just “each to his own.”  I grabbed some steak out of the freezer and cooked it in the iron skillet.  Season with whatever you like. I did freshly cracked pepper, salt and Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning.  After I cooked the steak I let it rest a tad and then sliced it against the grain.  We ate ours on a bed of spinach with feta cheese.  Other toppings: grape tomatoes, fresh mushrooms, cucumbers and onion.  Ranch dressing was a must with my bunch, even though I am known to go with vinaigrette, more often than not.

I hope that you have a wonderful mmmMonday! out there.  May your Monday night supper be wonderful and relaxing, Dirt Roaders.  You deserve it after a busy day.

Really now?

I am hanging my head in shame.  Not really, but I kinda feel like it.  Today, I am going to share with you, my sweet Dirt Roaders, something ridiculous.  It is our glass and cup collection.  Really now?  A family of five need a bazillion and a half drinking glasses and cups?  Please tell me that we are joking.  It’s nuts!

(These pictures are not the greatest because it was evening…but you will…um…get the picture.  I know…I just winced.)

SONY DSC

It will be so nice to unload the dishwasher and not have to fit the glasses in like puzzle pieces!

To our credit…we are big drinkers.  Hiccup.  I’m keeding….I’m keeding…not that kind of drinkers.  Like…sweet tea (Mine with Splenda please.) and other yummy things.  The occasional cup of coffee and milk for our Oreos.  We sound awful.  We are not.  We try to be a little more healthy than we sound.  😉 I do have to say that I usually have a glass filled with some kind of icy, refreshing, sweetness sitting on the kitchen counter.  (Are we thirsty yet?  I’m getting cotton mouth just blogging about it.)

(I lost my edited version somewhere...pretend my badge is on there. ;) ) Sheesh...look at all the cups!

(I lost my edited version somewhere…pretend my badge is on there.) Sheesh…look at all of those cups and glasses and doesn’t include stemware!

Really though…that does not mean that we need all of these cups and glasses.  Remember when I mentioned the January Purge to you?  Well…it has happened at our house.  Our first major phase.  It is wonderful.  I do have to say, that my Mr. did the boxing up while I was cooking pancakes and bacon and eggs.  He asked if things got to stay or had to go.  It’s so easy for him.  (I spied those little Tupperware tumblers that our babies used to drink their milk out of at snack time…but I left them in the box. *sniff) While this was going on, I was consoling myself in my mind, that they would still be in the basement in the box.  Get a grip woman!

ahhhhh......simplicity helps me breathe.

ahhhhh……simplicity helps me breathe.

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Roadikins. (My spell check doesn’t recognize “Roadikins” and suggests goatskins.  I would never call you Dirt Goatskins.) May you squeeze your loved ones extra and make wonderful memories…over glasses of sweet tea!

Sig

p.s. Mother-in-Law…if you are reading this…thank you for going to the nursing home with me on visitation yesterday.  You seemed pretty comfortable there. That makes me feel better. 😉 (I’m keeding…I’m keeding!)
