Old Man Winter

Is Old Man Winter getting up in your grill? Lol! He tends to do that…when his breath is below freezing. I threaten to wrap up like a burrito, in a blanket, this time of year. True story.

I have been doing a little “winter reset” around the Farmhouse. That keeps Old Man Winter off of my back. Little bright touches of pretty.

My in-laws gave me this gorgeous, handmade, sign for Christmas. It’s the perfect touch for a more neutral palette after the holiday season. Fresh and clean. January is good for that. I got a slow start with that…but I’m getting a little skedaddle in my get along now. (If you don’t speak Ozarkian…that means I finally got in gear…on week two.) Burritos don’t get much done.

Our sweet friends gave us this ottoman. It’s so cozy and our kids love it. I was gonna put it in the basement but I got overruled. That’s okay…cozy helps keep Old Man Winter at bay. Crusty ol’ feller.

Hello sweet Dirt Roaders! How is life treating you? I hope that you all had a Merry Christmas and are having a happy start to 2018. Whew! Can you believe it? Time flies!

We have been fighting off sinus germs here. It hasn’t been super fun. It’s also freeeeeeezing cold here in southern Missouri. I guess it is winter though, at least in our neck of the woods.

The Mr. braved the frosty weather and grilled steaks over the holiday. They were really good. A little taste of summer…in the heart of winter.

I found the quote above somewhere on the internet. I think it’s fitting for a blank page, how about you? “where no foot has been before…” God is like that. He beckons us to put down our fear and run to Him, as He guides. What better way to blaze the trail of a new year, than to follow the Leader?

When the days grow shorter, do you find yourself tucking in? Gettting chores done earlier is a must around here. Then evening comes earlier and sometimes bedtime.

The Mr. loves this time of year. The time to tuck in the garden, on the years that we have one. The time to make sure the livestock are prepared for the colder months. Also…time to tuck in the swimming pool until spring.

I love fall and winter evenings with a good cup of tea. Maybe a cozy throw too. Just soaking up family life.

May you and yours be tucked in, all nice and cozy, on this Thursday evening. I would love to hear some of your cozy season favorites!

So this week it has been just a few shy of 100 degrees…but the first day of fall is upon us.

So regardless of temps, I gradually put out a few fall things this week.

I hope that wherever you are…fall is on your radar. I hope that your allergies are under control and that your pumpkin spice game is strong.

Psssst…you’ve got a little candy corn in your teeth. Jaaaaay kaaaay! It’s pumpkin bread. 😉

A Little Bit of Country For You

I posted a little thingy on Facebook last week that said this: “I would rather hear cows mooing than horns honking.” It’s true, but not everyone feels that way and I totally respect that. Today though…I thought that I would post a little bit of country for you. You know…just in case you love it.

We have been helping one of our kids learn to drive this summer. That means lots of dirt road rides. One day we had Mamaw with us and we decided to take a new path. We wound up by some of our relative’s home place and the cemetery where our kid’s great-great- great-grandparents are. How crazy is that? Folks don’t stray far from home in these Ozark hills. Anyway…it was a gorgeous place…out in the middle of nowhere. My favorite kind of adventure.

I wish that I had snapped a picture of the beautiful pasture full of round bales. There were so many and it was gorgeous. One of my favorite summer views. I’ll share a picture of  Gingerbread instead. She loves hay too.

It’s been rainy out here on the dirt road. Although we are enjoying the cooler weather…we are missing the swimming pool. It has been nice and cozy though.

And all of that coziness makes you want to  turn your home decor in the direction of fall.

I have been clearing off a few spaces and rearranging a little. You know…just in case a pumpkin needs a place to sit. 😉 You “nebber” know! (As my little brother used to say.)

So…a little bit of country for you on this Tuesday. I hope that your day is peaceful and that the love of Jesus warms you from the inside out.

You guys! It’s smokin’ hot here! Like you feel grody when you step outside kind of hot. I know..I know…it gets hot every year in the summer…but this week it’s very much like the song. We are feeling hot, hot, hot in the Ozarks.

Now that you have our weather report *snicker, we can move on to other things like gorgeous grocery store roses. Anyone that braves our ALDI deserves fresh flowers. It is, sometimes, insanely busy at ours.

I love the look of roses in humble vases. An old crock, a Ball jar, anything like that. I also love it that they are so thrifty at the grocery store. The cream with blush centers might be my very favorite. Maybe. 😉

If you have never picked up a few grocery store roses for yourself…seriously…try it. Such an inexpensive way to add a little beauty to your home. They usually last several days, so you get a little eye candy for under five dollars. Trust me. You’re worth it.

It’s Fri-Yay! You made it!!! Did your week fly or did it plod? That seems to make a lot of difference doesn’t it?

Whatever the speed of your week…I hope that it was a productive one. It has been so hot here in the Ozarks that you have to be a little more selective about the time of day that you do certain chores. Of course…it is summer…so heat comes with it.

I hope that your weekend is relaxing. I hope that you get to spend it with those that you love, God, family and friends. Maybe you will even sneak in a junkin’ trip or two. That sounds fun!!! (I have been looking at Mason Cash mixing bowls online. Oh goodness. All the heart eyes!)

(Pinterest masoncash.co.uk)

Got a little side tracked there. Lol! But seriously….GOR JESSSSSS!

Okay…so you all have a blessed weekend!

Holiday weekends are fun aren’t they? While we remember those that have given their lives to protect us…and our loved ones that have went on to Heaven…we usually gather with family. That is such a gift. I learn that more and more…the older I get. So weekend vibes feel alive and well today.

We have new babies on the farm, so with feeding them four times a day, our weekend vibe will be busy. We have a momma goat that totally would not feed her twins. Then another that only took one. Sooooo…we are striving to give these babies the best chance possible.

Whatever you guys do this weekend…may Jesus bless you and warm your heart. May you quietly look around and absorb the love of your family. That is one of my favorite things to do. I used to see my dad doing that. He would just be enjoying his family and sitting there with a little smile. My granddad was the same way. I have been blessed with good teachers.

Happy Memorial Day from the Farmhouse.

Hey Guys!  How are you?  It’s been forever and a day…but today…I am back in the saddle again.  I appreciate those of you that continue to stop by to see if I have posted.  That warms my heart. My posts have been a bit spotty over the last several months, as I have concentrated on my health, but I do still love blogging.  Life has a way of bumping us up out of the saddle.  We have to be careful how we land. For those of you that don’t know…my Chiro calls it Fibromyalgia, and Doc calls in nerve related pain.  Whatever you label it…it’s not fun. That being said…life goes on and we have to roll with it. I’m learning to roll…in all of that time that I’m not blogging. *Winky face. Sooooo enough of that…let’s get this party started, shall we?

img_4721

I was slow about getting my fall decor out this year.  It was a very warm, humid, and summery September.  It just didn’t feel like pumpkin spice weather…no matter what Starbucks said. (btw:  We don’t have a Starbucks here…but I do love the PSL at McDonald’s once in a while.) Anyway…it finally cooled off and then warmed back up again. Typical Southern Missouri weather.  I did get out the fall stuff, some of it anyway. We visited the pumpkin patch, (So fun!) and we have been enjoying this cozy time of year. The little pumpkin lights above are so fun.  I found those at Big Lots and I love to turn them on of the evening, while we are all in the family room.  I brought the pine cones up out of the storage room too.  I just love pine cones in our home. So cozy…when you have grown up with pine trees, big and tall, in your front yard.

Okay….so this beauty above. My friend Shannon…found her at a sale the other day.  I’m pretty sure that this little wash stand has been living in someone’s barn.  Shanny called and said “Hey…do you want this?  I already asked my hubby and he said “no.”  lol!  She is a mess…and she knows me very well. At fifteen dollars…I caved.  The Mr. and my mom helped me spiff her up a little on Saturday.  We (he) had to evacuate a spider or two. Gag! Now she sits in the hallway of the Farmhouse in all of her white chippy glory…holding our radio, a lamp, and some twinkle lights in a ball jar. Oh, and also a white pumpkin that the Mr. picked up for me at the grocerystore. ❤  She is perfect.

Now…about that mantle. I have been wanting to do this forever. I have seen this idea on Pinterest…and at Magnolia. (Not in person…although I do have family close to Waco.) Sooo…on Columbus Day…the Mr. and I had an adventure.  We hunted high and low on our place for logs to use in this project.  We came up dry…so Shanny to the rescue again. We dug through their wood pile, then she used her dad’s chop saw. (Now the Mr. has chop saw on his Christmas List.) At this point it needs a few more slices and I am also tucking faux moss between the pieces.  I will show you the finished result. I love it.  It adds lots of coziness to our mantle and our family room.

Then there is this little gem.  I went to a Vintage Junk Trunk show in our town and came home with this little table. I wasn’t sure where to put it…but it’s so  cozy in our kitchen. I’m not big on clutter…and when new things come in I try to take old things out…so we shall see how it goes.  For now though…I love it here. I am told that it’s a little map table. It has folding legs.  Super sweet!

img_4725

I finally filled my wash tubs with pumpkins.  They actually came from ALDI.  They have such good prices on their pumpkins there…that you can’t hardly beat it. Anyway…it’s sure good to visit with you guys again.  I hope that Jesus is blessing your autumn…from your nose to your toes!

It’s here! Are we excited?  You bet your pumpkin muffins we are! Today, my mom bought us a cozy throw and some Pumpkin Spice Celestial Seasonings tea. I am armed for pumpkin season.

On a farm it’s always exciting to spend time outside when it cools off.  I can’t wait for a bit of cooler weather for fresh pumpkins on our porch. I actually bought some discounted throw pillows for the porch swing today. A gray and white Moroccan print. Supah cute for fall and winter. Eeeeeeep!

I hope that you are as excited as we are!
