Hey Dirt Roaders! I sure hope that you had a Merry Christmas and I hope that your New Year is off to a great beginning. Fresh starts are nice aren’t they? Motivating and exhilarating. Yes…sometimes we abandon them early in the year…but sometimes not. I give us kudos for our zest for life anyway.

Maybe your goal is to lose a pound or two. Or maybe it’s to be more consistent with your quiet time of prayer and Bible study. Maybe it’s to be a better listener or to stay on budget more. Whatever our goals are…I think we will stick with them if we pace ourselves and give grace when needed. A fresh start…with a steady and doable gait.

Have you ever ran a race and started off too fast? You were at the front of the pack…for a while. Then you got winded and had to sloooooow way down. That happened to me in grade school. I learned very quickly that I needed to pace myself from the start, to finish well. The same goes for our goals. Realistic is sometimes a bit slow…but it’s steady. You know…the ol’ tortoise and hare scenario.

Whatever your goals and ambitions, I am praying now that whoever reads this little piece…may they bloom and flourish in this new year. May it be a year of growth and blessing for us all.

Mercy and Grace

You guys are so good to stop by here when there isn’t even new stuff to read. My Dirt Roaders are full of mercy and grace. Don’t let anyone tell ya any different.

I am diffusing a bit of lemon and grapefruit today. The washer is chuggin’ away, doing it’s thing. I have so much laundry you guys. I have been sick with some sort of cold/flu thing and you know how that goes. My family is good to dish out the mercy and grace though. I am thankful for that.

My sweet MIL sent a cozy throw my way. Talk about grace. I’m not even keeping up on her son’s laundry and she sent me a prizey…as we call them. Isn’t it gorgeous? BHG at your local Walmart. She bought my SIL one too. We are a bit spoiled. A little more mercy and grace.

I saw this online somewhere recently. Are we guilty of not giving our bodies mercy and grace? Sure we are. How can we accept others, pass mercy and grace onto them, we we don’t even give it to ourselves? I want to do better about that.

I’m gonna leave you with this last little tidbit. The Bible talks about God loving us, like a mother with her nursing infant. That kind of love…is full to the brim with mercy and grace, isn’t it? Why do we sometimes, as believers, give into the idea that He doesn’t feel that way towards us? I know why. We believe the lies that the enemy whispers. We shouldn’t. God’s plans are for our good. He is the Master…of mercy and grace.

Aren’t we glad that His mercies are new every morning.

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning:  great is thy faithfulness.”  Lamentations 3:22-23

A fresh start each day.  Maybe yesterday wasn’t so hot for you.  Maybe you went to bed last night thinking…”Tomorrow I will start afresh.”  Guess what?  You were right.  With the dawn of the morning, there are new mercies available.  Maybe yesterday was great for you and you just want to continue with that.  Whatever the case, I am always thankful for morning at the Farmhouse.  I love fresh starts…and giant cups of coffee.

When I was editing the pictures for this post…I decided to not edit out the morning color.  We are guilty in Blogland of trying to get the perfect shot.  No shadows and a perfect white balance.  I love pictures like that myself…but they are not always telling the whole story.  Our kitchen this morning was a mixture of shadow and light.  It was full of golden pink.  I don’t ever want to edit out the creativity of the Master.  It was beautiful.  I wanted my Dirt Roaders to be able to feel that.

My very favorite thing in this post is the little tongue depressor snow man.  Our little guy brought that home from school.  I propped it up in the window sill.  I heard him telling his dad and showing him where I set it.  He was so proud. Oh my heart.  There is a bit of irony with the snow man.  I have an old apothecary jar for tongue depressors.  One day I felt the Lord nudge my heart on that very subject.  You know…keeping the ol’ tongue under control and keeping my mouth shut.  Maybe the little snowman has more significance than I realized.  I love it when God teaches us…with the simple things of this life.

Country life in the morning is a beautiful thing.  Everyone wants their breakfast.  Our over-enthusiastic rooster, Nacho, is crowing his lungs out.  Our steer, Chuck, is very vocal about his need for grain or hay.  If you barely open the back door, the goats are greeting you with their song. Children are scurrying around, grabbing backpacks  and breakfast.  It’s pretty typical.  Yesterday, my Mr. was running a little late…so I did the chores.   When I came back in, my ears were about frozen.  I should have dug out my dad’s old hat with the fuzzy ear flaps. 😉 I did “borrow” my husband’s Muck boots.  They were big…but so warm!  If you do chores and don’t have any….save your extra dollars.  They are worth it!  I may have to start saving up for a pair of my own!

I hope that you have a lovely day.  If it started out on the wrong foot or wrong side of the bed…just remember:  This day is full of mercy and grace.  There are mornings everywhere, everyday.

Love from our dirt road to yours,

p.s.  A huge thank you to my Mr. and B.  You guys are amazing tech support.  The new computer is up and running with all of the proper things installed.  I appreciate it very much!

Whatcha lookin’ for?

Kelli

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
