Use your gourd!

Hi guys!  How’s the weather?  It’s rainy and cozy here.  LUFF THAT!  Rainy days…make me want to do projects and be crafty and rearrange the furniture.  How bout you?

This week I did something that I am famous known for.  I have already taken apart something that I decorated for fall…this year.  I am really bad to constantly be tweaking things in our home.  I cannot stop.  If it looks like too much…I start taking away.  If it looks like to little…I start adding.  Okay..whew!  Enough of that. 😉

I was at the grocery store the other day and I found these precious little gourds/squash/pumpkins.  I HAD to have them.  They are real.  I am a sucker for real pumpkins/squash/gourds.  (I’m sorry, people call them all different things even if it’s not the correct term.)  Sooooooooooo….I was cleaning out the hutch and what to my wondering eyes did appear?……….. These glass candle thingies that I bought forever ago!  I actually found them at a thrift store.  (Good eye Momma, good eye.) So…I decided to use two of them (there are three) to set my little gourds in.  There was a tad of room at the bottom…so I popped a little moss in there.  Fun…fun!

Happy Weekend, Dirt Road Peeps!  Enjoy…and fluff that nest a little!

Shrooms!

Hey!  How ah ya?  Good?  Great!  😉

I just wanted to share this picture with you.  The day that I took it…I could just imagine a tiny, little fairy, from a childhood storybook, sitting on one of them.  Aren’t mushrooms crazy?  They aren’t there…and then…BOOM!  Mushrooms galore!  I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.  Maybe I’m crazy…or maybe it was all of that mushroom decor that Mom had back in the day.  Who knows!?

Have a wonderful Thursday, Dirt Roaders.  Thursday…is my fav!

Are you all about the retro?

Hey guys!  You have made it to the middle of the week!  Good job, Bob.  (and all others…besides the Bobs out there.)  Okay…nuff of that.

While I was looking through some of our old pictures, I came across this one.  There is something about the colors of things from days gone by, they make my heart smile.  (Just ask my junkin’ buddies.  I go all ninja when I spot something turquoise. hee hee!)

I think that I still have most of the things in this picture.  I do not still have the little piece of “oak” railing.  I do not miss it.  🙂

Maybe these things remind us of happy days at our grandparent’s houses.  Maybe they remind us of a country that started producing items in “happier” colors because of war times.  Maybe they remind us of the seventies and eighties, when some of us were kids.  Maybe they reflect the creativity of a Creator with their vibrant color.  Whatever the reason for our love of retro things…you have to admit, they are just really a whole lot of fun!

Happy Wednesday, Dirt Roaders!  Happy junkin’!

Old dressers…calling all old dressers…

Aren’t old dressers so much fun?  Now days people are painting them and doing all kinds of amazing things. I love that. My husband’s aunt…Sherri Beth, just finished one for her daughter.  It looked great! I also have a friend that turned a ho-hum set…into two amazing pieces.  You people are great…out there!

This dresser was an anniversary gift.  Number sixteen I believe.  I was thrilled when I found it for forty dollars.  I love it so much, in its rough condition, that I have not had the heart to paint it yet.  It’s not only pretty…but handy too.  The deep drawers provide lots more storage space.  I am in love with that.  So. Much.

Do you have pieces like this?  I would love to hear about them!

Happy Tuesday, Dirt Roadikins!  May it be very blessed!

A simple favorite…

Hello!  Happy Monday!  (Do those two words belong together?)  Some of you may be saying…”Yeah right.”  I guess Monday is all in the eye (brain) of the beholder.  Some love it…some hate it…some fear it.  We are here.  We are breathing.  Let’s enjoy it.

Just something nice and easy (*snicker* I’m sorry.  I cannot ever say (type) that without thinking “That’s my style.”) today.  I don’t remember what inspired me to run out into the garage, grab an old piece of trim and spray paint it grey…but I did.  Then, I stenciled it with a word that I thought would be a good reminder to our family.  I hope that you like it.  It’s still one of my favorites.

Enjoy your day, Dirt Roaders.  Make it a good one.

Cozy, to the highest power…

Hello!  I hope that your weekend is going well.  I hope that if it’s chilly outside in your area, you are warm and cozy somewhere…just enjoyin’.

My wish for you tonight is that you are as cozy as a big ol’ pile of cherry oatmeal cookies.  That is all kinds of cozy if you ask me.  Throw in an enamel ware tray and a bell jar (that’s for you Maranda ;)) and you’ve got your cozy going on.

Have a wonderful “rest” of the weekend.  God is good…to give us moments like these. Happy Weekending, Dirt Roaders!

Itty Bitty Punkums

Hi!  How is your Friday going so far?  Hopefully, wondermous.  😉  I just wanted to share with you something fun today.  Fridays should be fun, right?  I thought that you would think so.

My friend introduced me to something wonderful this year.  Where have these been all of my life?  Where have I been all of my life?  Where have I been while you all were already enjoying these wonderful things all of my life?  Okay…enough of that.  My friend introduced me to Putka pods.  These wonderful, little, tiny pumpkin-looking pods that actually come from India! (My sweet little son used to say “punkums” in case the title of today’s blog is bothering you. )  I have just fallen in luff with these tiny things.  I have them all over the place.  So simple…yet so sweet.  From what I have heard, they keep from year to year.  How fun.  Don’tcha think?  Hey…you are talking to the lady that freezes the Christmas candy that she decorates with, for the next year. 😉

I hope that you have a great weekend!  I hope that you find some Putka pods, Dirt Roaders!!!

I love all things “punkumy.”

Priceless Art Work

Okay…so it’s probably only priceless to me.  These are some of my favorite earthly treasures.  They are pieces of our children.  I love them.  They delight me…more than I could ever explain.  You guys understand.  Because I love you…I will share them with you today.  You are most welcome.  😉 Happy Thursday, Dirt Roaders!

A pumpkin in charcoal for me? Yay!

Love those google eyes.

I miss those tiny thumbs that made some of those heads.

Antipasto…”Before the meal.”

Happy, happy lunch.

Hello!  How are you today?  Hopefully all is well in your home and in your kitchen.  Today I just wanted to share with you one of my very favorite things.  Yep…you guessed it, antipasto.

Antipasto is the Italian equivalent to our appetizers in America.  As you know, the word antipasto means “Before the meal.”  I love to eat antipasto for a meal.  It generally consists of meat, veggies, olives and cheeses.  I just use whatever I have on hand. It is amazing if you toss everything that you want and then drizzle with olive oil, sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper.  Antipasto platters are fun at parties.  If you get your things ready in advance and let the veggies, olives and cheeses marinate in the oil…you won’t be disappointed.  Y-U-M!

What are some of your favorites to add in an antipasto platter?  I would love to hear your ideas…so I can add them to my own platter next time!  😉

Happy Wednesday, Dirt Roaders…from my fridge to yours.

Lighting is the jewelry…

It’s true, in my opinion, that lighting is the jewelry in our homes.  You build or buy a home.  The finishing touches are usually the light fixtures that you choose.  They sort of set the tone.  Lamps are the same way.  They can change a room…just by moving them to a different table or book-case.  That being said, I will show you the other “goodie” that I found.

We have lived in our home for almost nine years.  It’s crazy the way that time flies!  It doesn’t seem all that long ago that we were whispering prayers over our basement being dug or our well being drilled.  Those are the stressful days.  You are just never sure how much either one will wind up costing.  Thankfully, (I mean that!) it wasn’t too  bad.  So…enough about that.  It’s time to switch out the shades on the lights above the island.  Are you ready?  Okay, here we go.  😉

Old shades.

The husband has his thinkin’/workin’ face on. Love that! 😉

drum…dra..drum…drum….

Pretty little drum shades.

I love the coziness. 🙂

Have a happy Tuesday, Dirt Roaders!  Be brave…switch out those shades!
