Get your wreath on!

Hey Dirt Road Peeps!  We made it to Friday.  High fives and fist pounds all around.  There ya go!  Sooooooooo….who has their Christmas wreath on the door.  I do…I do…pick me…pick me. 😉  But then you probably knew that I would.  I can’t stand to let my door go “nakey.”  It ALWAYS has a wreath on it.  It’s a weakness of mine.  The only time it doesn’t have a wreath on it are those times when we have hurricane like winds up on the hill.  That can be scary.  Mainly because the only body of water that we live close to…is a pond.  It’s just bad- crazy wind sometimes.  Enough to make us give up wreaths on the outsides of the windows.  We like to sleep at night.  Is that so wrong?????  😉 (The wreaths were too noisy.)

Okay…enough babbling.  Sheesh Kel.  Enough already.  Give these poor people a break.  (It’s getting bad folks…I’m talking to myself…in front of you.)  😉  I’m gonna show you a picture of this year’s wreath.  I used my “burlap” wreath from fall, some old ribbon and old ornaments.  I love it. EXCEPT…I didn’t realize that all of the green ones were kinda….all in a row…until I edited this picture.  But…because no one is perfect….I’m not going to fix it and take another picture.  Let’s just say that this is my tribute to a more laid back Christmas than years past.

May you have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Road friends.  I think that we may find our real tree for the kids and put lights outside.  I will let you know how that goes.  Now…go love life…and land’s sakes…leave me a comment.  😉

Winter wonderland or laxative?

Ha!  I know..I know…you are thinking…”Did I just read that right?”  “Is this really the title of her post?”  Yes, my friends, you did and it is.  Today I just wanted to put you on to the joys of Epsom salts.  I’m actually talking about using them as “snow” in your home…um…not the other.  Who doesn’t want to transform their home into a winter wonderland?  Who wants to talk about laxatives today? Okay….no hands on either.  Let’s talk snow.

You know a few years ago, someone gave me a bag of that flaky, fake snow that looked kinda like shredded coconut.  I still use it.  It is very pretty.  Then…somewhere I came upon the fact that people use Epsom salts in their apothecary jars.  How awesome is that?  If you are of the branch of people who don’t really know much about Epsom salts,( like I was, I thought that a good foot soak was their only quality) they actually look like big sugar crystals.  They are fairly cheap and make very pretty snow.  Who knew that magnesium sulfate could be so beautiful?  Someone did.

I loved the way that this picture turned out so it’s the only one that I’m posting today. I will share the other jars later.

Have a wonderful day, Dirt Roaders.  Let it snow…let it snow…let it snow.

p.s. I mentioned that the salts were fairly cheap.  I paid four and then three dollars at some different places and then saw them at Wal-Mart for like…eighty-eight cents! Next time…I WILL KNOW!  😉

Mantle, mantle, on the wall…..

Okay friends.  Here it is.  The moment that you’ve been waiting for.  The little project that I keep mentioning. You see…I had this brainstorm.  Sometimes this is a good thing.  Sometimes…it’s sadly…um…not.  Never fear…this one was good.  It involves our mantle that I love, lovity, love!  It’s old and the paint is chipped and it has tons of character.  It just doesn’t have a fireplace underneath it.  That bothers some people.  It does not bother me.  I usually hang a wreath in the opening.

Enter: Original idea that got tossed.

First I thought that I wanted to have the Mr. cut a piece of plywood and then paint it black.  Then we would glue tons of round pieces of logs on it to make it look like a fireplace with logs stacked in it. (Thank you Pinterest.)  If you haven’t ever seen this you oughta check it out.  It is really very cool.  The only thing was…the lack of a tree that size to cut…which I was not giving up on, but then I had this other idea that was not only easy but awesome, if I do say so myself. (The Mr. probably prayed for a change of heart! lol!)

Enter: Idea that makes my little heart happy.

I am proud to say that I actually thought this one up before I even knew that people do this.  I thought…”Hey why not paint that board with black chalkboard paint and then I could write cute stuff  on it.?”  So…I peeked on Pinterest just to see if people even do this.  THEY DO.  I was really stoked then.  There is so much out there with chalkboards.  Have you guys ever checked out Miss Mustard Seed’s blog?  She is awesome with chalkboards.  Anyway…I hope that you like it.  I love it.  I am very pleased.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, Dirt Roaders.  Now go forth and do projects.

And………apothecary.

You did it!  It’s Friday.  I will wait a sec while you do your happy dance.  Da dum…dum..dum…dee…dee…dum….. Are ya done?  Okay.  Here we go.  😉  So apothecary jars!  I love them.  So much.  Did I tell you that,  last year…when I was taking my big one off of the hutch that I dropped the lid and it hit me on the head?  OUCHNESS! It then went along on its journey to the floor.  Yeah….no more lid.  Anyway, yesterday I was out and about and I found another one to kinda replace my broken one.  EVERYONE knows that you must have three!  I also happened upon an amazing piece of old ceiling tile.  I will share that with you…when I get it on the wall.  For now…enjoy with me…the newest member of my apothecary jar family.  I shall call her Squatty.  (Okay….I know…but I’m crackin’ myself up with that one. 😉 )

Have a wonderful Friday, Sweet Dirt Roaders!  It’s almost Thanksgiving!

Half price…very nice.

Helloooooooooo! I hope that you are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed today.  Gotta love that Ozarkian lingo.  😉  I’m just gonna share with you a couple of things that I found on sale (half price) the other day.  I love it when they run the fall decor on sale.  Usually, you still have time to put it out and then next year when you dig out your autumnal decor…YAY…you have something “new” in your stash.

I picked up these pieces at a wonderful little store called the At Home Market.  It’s one of those places that are just my style.  Not too fru-fru but not too….blah.  😉  You know what I mean, right?  I thought so.  I reallllllllllllllllllly love it when their things are half price.  That is da bomb diggity fo sho! (I don’t know….I have no excuse for that lingo.)  Anyway friends…I hope that you enjoy looking at my new, little, sa-weet, half price bargains!  Oh yeah…and there is a shot of my fall banner…just cause I love it.

I have wanted one of these twiggy pumpkins for a while. Half price? Even better.

This little guy had my heart from the moment I saw him.

I plan to make one that says “Merry Christmas” too.

Happy Tuesday, Dirt Roaders.  Now….go forth to the half price sales!

Hi!  I’m so excited to share with you today, a new treasure that a friend gave me.  Matter of fact, when she gave it to me I said, “I can’t wait to blog about this.”  I think that she told me that she gave around fifty cents for this little butter dish at a garage sale.  How fun is that?  Some of my most favorite little “treasures” have been less than a dollar.  This little sweetie has been bumped up to the very top of my favorites list!  I hope that you enjoy looking at it as much as I do.

Pretty little treasure.

You didn’t think that I wouldn’t put putka pods in it….right? 😉

Simple beauty.

This pumpkin is another favorite. Along with the little bowl. What a wonderful vingette…favorite things.

Pretty junk. Be still my heart.

Happy Wednesday, Dirt Road friends.  Go find yourself a thrifty treasure! Or buy one for someone else…and make their day.  😉

p.s.  I’m going to be out-of-pocket for a day or three.  See you when I get back!

This little light of mine…..

Happy Wednesday!  Are you ready to talk lighting again?  I am.  😉  I’m always game for that.

Here lately…um…I have been thinking toward Christmas decor.  I know…I know.  I am death on celebrating Thanksgiving first.  I’m still all about that, I just like to think toward the next season and have a plan.  That being said, I have been thinking about these lights that we have in our family room.  I love, love, love-ity, love them.  We purchased them a while after we built our house, replacing the basic lights that we had up. They used to have cream, pleated shades on them.  Last year, I stripped them down to naked bulbs and I love them that way.  One day I may purchase covers for the plastic bases, but for now they are fine.  (I did take the stickers off. ;))  I love the little ledges for decorating.  At this point in time I used berry garland.

I especially love these with the new family room color that we have now. It’s called Midwinter Sky.

I’m thinking on trying to find some kind of evergreen or something wintry to add next.  (Right now they are nakey-nake.)  Maybe something to leave up through the whole winter.  Something cozy.  I don’t know…when I see it…I will know.  That is the way that I roll.  I see the thing that I need and it jumps out and slaps me.  Then I know to take it home.  (Just so you know…that doesn’t really happen.  Just in my mind.) But when I find it, I will show it to you.  We can then jump up and down together.  We can be inspired and run around shouting it out to the world.  Okay, we won’t really do that.  Just in our minds.  😉

I hope that your day is wonderful, Dirt Roaders.  You deserve it.

Let’s get organized!

Well howdy friends!  I hope that you are wondermous.  That would make me really happy!

Let me ask you a question.  Are you organized?  Do you long to be organized?  Does being organized make you uncomfortable?  Does too much organization make your head hurt?  I will let you in on a little something.  Too little organization makes my head hurt.  Not literally…but it does drive me insane.  I’m not totally bonkers…like… it has to be picked up the instant that it has been laid down… but it does have to be picked up eventually.  Whew-wee…enough of that.

Enter:  The awesome little metal shelving that they carry at Wally World.

These give a little farmhouse/industrial/farmer’s market feel. That makes me happy, in the nest fluffin’ department. 😉

Are you guys all about this?  I love it.  I really love the industrial/farmhouse look that it gives to an area.

I would love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love to hear some of your organizing tips.  Your comments make me happy, Dirt Roaders!  Happy Tuesday!

Use your gourd!

Hi guys!  How’s the weather?  It’s rainy and cozy here.  LUFF THAT!  Rainy days…make me want to do projects and be crafty and rearrange the furniture.  How bout you?

This week I did something that I am famous known for.  I have already taken apart something that I decorated for fall…this year.  I am really bad to constantly be tweaking things in our home.  I cannot stop.  If it looks like too much…I start taking away.  If it looks like to little…I start adding.  Okay..whew!  Enough of that. 😉

I was at the grocery store the other day and I found these precious little gourds/squash/pumpkins.  I HAD to have them.  They are real.  I am a sucker for real pumpkins/squash/gourds.  (I’m sorry, people call them all different things even if it’s not the correct term.)  Sooooooooooo….I was cleaning out the hutch and what to my wondering eyes did appear?……….. These glass candle thingies that I bought forever ago!  I actually found them at a thrift store.  (Good eye Momma, good eye.) So…I decided to use two of them (there are three) to set my little gourds in.  There was a tad of room at the bottom…so I popped a little moss in there.  Fun…fun!

Happy Weekend, Dirt Road Peeps!  Enjoy…and fluff that nest a little!

Are you all about the retro?

Hey guys!  You have made it to the middle of the week!  Good job, Bob.  (and all others…besides the Bobs out there.)  Okay…nuff of that.

While I was looking through some of our old pictures, I came across this one.  There is something about the colors of things from days gone by, they make my heart smile.  (Just ask my junkin’ buddies.  I go all ninja when I spot something turquoise. hee hee!)

I think that I still have most of the things in this picture.  I do not still have the little piece of “oak” railing.  I do not miss it.  🙂

Maybe these things remind us of happy days at our grandparent’s houses.  Maybe they remind us of a country that started producing items in “happier” colors because of war times.  Maybe they remind us of the seventies and eighties, when some of us were kids.  Maybe they reflect the creativity of a Creator with their vibrant color.  Whatever the reason for our love of retro things…you have to admit, they are just really a whole lot of fun!

Happy Wednesday, Dirt Roaders!  Happy junkin’!
