What a Pear!

Hey Guys!  Thank you for stopping by yesterday.  I was so excited to show you the hutch…and my husband kept saying “Your people are going to love this.”  lol!  He was right.  Thank you…thank you…thank you….my people. (That was said in a low, leader-type voice.)  Sooooo anyway, we are talking pears today.  Have you seen them everywhere?  Have you seen them anywhere?  I have.  Thus….What A Pear!

Pears just seem to be a classy looking fruit.  Have you noticed that?  (I’m full of questions today.) I see them in Blogland, I see them at my favorite decorating store in our town.  I am getting ready to make a run to this wonderful store just a ways from us, to see if they have any of the bright green ones.  BTW:  You heard it here first…or maybe not…but I have it on good authority that GREEN is the color for 2013.  I heard it straight from the horses mouth…well…she isn’t a horse and doesn’t resemble one, she is actually very pretty. (I hope that she isn’t reading my blog.)  I also read online somewhere, that emerald-green is the color.  I’m okay with that.  I love bright, moss-green.  I think that I got sidetracked.  All of you women are still with me…but we lost the men somewhere back there.  Sorry guys.  😉  Pears!  There we are…back on track.  Pears are pretty.  I’m done.

I found these little pear bowls at Big Lots also. Aren't they fun?

I love you, Dirt Roaders.  I hope that you have a wonderful day.  Run to the nearest store and buys some pears! (Only if it is in your budget.  If not…look at the junk store.)  Real or fake, they are elegant and beautiful.  (Father…You do good work…and I love You…undescribable. Amen.)

Drumroll please…

Here it is.  My five dollar hutch makeover!  I am not kidding you.  Drumroll please…

Okay…just a minute.  Maybe I should explain how this happened.  Last week I went to Big Lots to grab a pillow that I had seen the day before and didn’t buy.  It’s so cute.  It’s the French grain sack type.  (Awesome find.) Do you love Big Lots?  I do.  Sometimes when I’m there…I come upon these amazing finds.  Okay…so we have established my love for Big Lots…let’s move on. Drumroll please…

SONY DSC

Our hutch in it’s original glory.

So, here I am toodling around in the back of the store and I come upon a Waverly vinyl table-cloth.  It was a beautiful blue and white Moroccan print. FIVE American dollars!  I’m not really sure when the lightbulb came on but it was this divine moment.  I mean glowing light..and harps and all.  Okay, not so much, but I was really excited.  I decided that I was going to, very sweetly, ask the Mr. to help me with a little DIY.  I wanted to measure this table-cloth, cut it and put it in the back of the hutch.  (I have seen this in Blogland and can you say…..SCHA-NA-ZEE? That is snazzy to you normal people.) Drumroll please…

SCORE!

SCORE!

My hutch has a long story about two young people with a little blonde headed child.  They were so excited in a furniture store…once upon a time.  I have seriously thought about getting rid of it and going with a buffet, but I am a tad on the sentimental side.  It’s not a high dollar piece…but I still love it.  I revamped it a little…by painting the oak with some white paint that we already had.  The Mr. also had some glue that we used to put the table cloth on. Thus…a five dollar hutch makeover.  Drumroll please…

SONY DSC

Bye bye blonde.

I’m going to let the pictures do the rest of the talking for me.  Let me know what you think.  I would love to hear your comments.  Have a wonderful day, Dirt Roadies. You are the best!

All white....love..lovity..love!

A more patient Mr., I have never know.

All done. Ain’t she pretty? 😉 I love Miss Mustard Seed….she inspired my little hanging wreath.

Very pleased with the results of my five dollar project.

Lemon Fresh

08 Tuesday Jan 2013

Hey friends.  Are you crazy busy cleaning out your pantry and all of your cabinets? Yeah…me neither.  Not yet anyway.  I had to scrub our bathrooms before I could even think about the other.  I will get there though.  The January Purge…is always nice.  That brings me to Lemon Fresh.  It’s a little crazy, what I am getting ready to tell you.  Hey…I just promised you a friendly little blog…not a sane one.

This is kinda weird.  When everyone else is knee-deep in one season of decor…I am already thinking about the next.  It’s not something that I talk about…it’s just the way that my mind works.  I don’t go ahead and put it into play, I just keep those ideas in the back of my mind.  Soooooooo….while everyone was enjoying their Christmas trees and garland, I was thinking about lemons.

I have these wonderful fake lemons.  My friend Shanny actually had some and they were so pretty and so “real” that I needed some too.  I just kept thinking about them during the Christmas season.  Actually…I kept thinking about the freshness of January and all of the things that I love to incorporate into our home during that month.  Clean surfaces are one of the main ones after all of the holiday decor. So the lemons, they kept calling to me from down in the basement: “Kelli, come and get us.  Put us in a cloche on your breakfast nook table.  Put that topiary in a non-Christmas pot, so we can stay there together.” Okaaaaaaaaay…so that is a little scary.  Seriously though…I love the brightness and the freshness.  Lemon fresh… just says organized and clean to me.

Beatiful inspiration.

Beautiful inspiration.

Do you anticipate decorating for the next season?  I would love to hear all about it.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, Dirt Roadies.  Don’t forget the lemons!

Hey guys! I just wanted to check in with you for a bit today.  I have something so fun to show you.  I actually got it back before Christmas.  I was DELIGHTED!  Have you been seeing those preserved boxwood wreaths all over blogland?  Welllllllllll…..I ordered one for myself.  I found this one on the Antique Farmhouse site.  Have you all ever checked that out?  LOVE IT!  All things “farmhouse-y.”  Anyway…I will go ahead and show you why I am wreathed in smiles.

Hey Guys!  How are ya?  We are doing pretty good.  Trying to deal with the crud that is going around in our neck of the woods.  It’s the kind that has “stick-to-it-tive-ness.”  Yeah..yeah…it’s a hillbilly term, passed down from an older generation.  😉 Anyway…the pictures that I’m going to share with you today all happen to have some sort of tree theme going…thus “Christmas in the Woods.”  Idk…ya know?  Just go with it.  😉

In the entry.

The first year that we had a real tree, many moons ago, we bought this snow globe. One of our little treasures.

Oh Bottle Brush…Oh Bottle Brush…

Hey Guys!  Are you absolutely crazy about those tiny bottle brush trees?  I am!  They are so much fun!  Matter of fact…I just bought another one.  It’s lime green and glittery. (Surely not.)  If you don’t have any yet….throw down your computer and run out the door to Wal-Mart, just like you are right now!  Run back to the Christmas stuff and there they are.  Sitting there on the shelf with a heavenly light around them. (Insert heavenly music.)  They are so cheap and so fun!  Also, don’t forget to pick up an apothecary jar and some Epsom salts on your way to the check-out!

Okay, if you just did that…you deserve a prize.  I will send you my latest recording of “Oh Bottle Brush.”  (I’m kidding…I’m kidding.)  I just wanted to share with you, just how much fun that cheap decor can be.  This year, these bottle brush trees have been at the top of my list.  They just look like Christmas from yesterday…you know?  I knew that you would understand.  😉

How fun is that? Ikr? Pretty fun.

Have a great weekend, Dirt Roaders!  May your day be merry and bright!

A sprinkle of glitter…

Hey Dirt Roaders! I have a question for you:  Are your homes covered in glitter?  I went to a Christmas party the other night and the little piece of glitter that I could see on my face, out of the corner of my eye, was driving me insane!  That said, I love it anyway.  I love a sprinkle of glitter in our home.  It feels so festive.  I also love those “icy” branches that you can buy now days.  Give me some glitter, some flocked trees and a dash or turquoise and I’m good to go!  Woot!

A little glitter in the kitchen.

ahhh....mercury glass. Be still my little junkin' heart.

Simple Christmas Decor

08 Saturday Dec 2012

Hey Friends!  How are you?  I usually don’t post much on the weekend. Today you are getting a bonus.  😉  So…simple things to use as decor for Christmas?  Yes…I have a few of those tricks up my sleeve.  I will share a couple with you today.

I lovity..love…love these clip on, bird ornaments that we got a few years ago.  I think that they were clearanced out for like .29 or something like that.  How fun!  They just add a little festive glam to your ordinary things.  I just used this candle ring on one of those suction cup hangers, on a mirror.  Then I clipped the little bird on.  SA-WEET!

SONY DSC

So….how easy is some frosty garland, yarn balls and big ol’ pinecones in a bowl?  Pretty easy and looks great on our coffee table.

SONY DSC

After so many years of too much stress during the holidays we have decided to make wise choices.  As much as I love decorating it can be overwhelming this time of year.  I have also discovered that I enjoy it so much more when it is simple and clean-looking. Simple Christmas decor is… the new me.

Last night we blocked out a whole evening to drive around with our kids and look at Christmas lights.  We also did a little secret santa delivery…that was so much fun!  Wow…I think that I am getting it… after all these years.  (Wait…that makes me sound old.) 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Roaders!  Don’t forget to stop and smell the garland! 😉

p.s. I would LOVE to hear you thoughts on this.  Your comments make me HAPPY!

Lookin’ for red in all the right places…

Hey Friends! How are you?  I hope that you enjoyed your weekend.  We sure did.  Our Christmas lights are up and at ’em.  Hopefully, one of these evenings I can snap a picture for you.  We haven’t drug a real tree home yet…but it’s on the agenda.  Anyway…are you adding red to your home this time of year?  I have been.  Little touches here and there.  I have also added some turquoise sparkle.  Momma likes!  😉 So…let the red begin!

One of my favorites. Peppermint sticks tied with a green velvet ribbon.

Gumdrops falling on my head…

Hey Guys.  I usually don’t post on the weekends but I wanted to show you the new, little changes to the blog.  Plus, I thought that I would share my gumdrops with you.  I would…literally…if I could, but I can’t.  Sooooo I will share my gumdrops…well…visually.  🙂  They are nestled in a bed of,  you guessed it, Epsom salts.  Do you recognize the butter dish?  Of course you do.  It’s the one that used to have the tiny pumpkins (putka pods) in it.  I just love that little dish.  (Thanks a billion, Shanny!)  I freeze my candy from year to year.  It keeps wonderfully that way.  Of course, I only decorate with it.  We don’t eat the candy that has been in the freezer all of these years. So…I wouldn’t really share these gumdrops if you were here.  I would buy you new ones.  I’m just nice that way.  😉

SONY DSC

I hope that you like the new color.  I love…lovity…love it.  (Of course you probably knew that I would.  It’s turquoise after all.  😉

Have fun, Dirt Roaders!  Enjoy that weekend.
