You guys! It’s smokin’ hot here! Like you feel grody when you step outside kind of hot. I know..I know…it gets hot every year in the summer…but this week it’s very much like the song. We are feeling hot, hot, hot in the Ozarks.

Now that you have our weather report *snicker, we can move on to other things like gorgeous grocery store roses. Anyone that braves our ALDI deserves fresh flowers. It is, sometimes, insanely busy at ours.

I love the look of roses in humble vases. An old crock, a Ball jar, anything like that. I also love it that they are so thrifty at the grocery store. The cream with blush centers might be my very favorite. Maybe. 😉

If you have never picked up a few grocery store roses for yourself…seriously…try it. Such an inexpensive way to add a little beauty to your home. They usually last several days, so you get a little eye candy for under five dollars. Trust me. You’re worth it.

It’s Fri-Yay! You made it!!! Did your week fly or did it plod? That seems to make a lot of difference doesn’t it?

Whatever the speed of your week…I hope that it was a productive one. It has been so hot here in the Ozarks that you have to be a little more selective about the time of day that you do certain chores. Of course…it is summer…so heat comes with it.

I hope that your weekend is relaxing. I hope that you get to spend it with those that you love, God, family and friends. Maybe you will even sneak in a junkin’ trip or two. That sounds fun!!! (I have been looking at Mason Cash mixing bowls online. Oh goodness. All the heart eyes!)

(Pinterest masoncash.co.uk)

Got a little side tracked there. Lol! But seriously….GOR JESSSSSS!

Okay…so you all have a blessed weekend!

Good morning guys! It’s Thursday!!! My favorite!!! I thought that we would just chat it up a little today. Nothing specific in this post. That okay? Okay!

So…the fair is in our neck of the woods this week. The hottest time of the year. Lol! My Mister and our son went to the livestock show this week. They sent me the sweetest shot of our son and his buddy…heading for a funnel cake. I love this!!!

I did a little revamping this week. If you follow along on IG…some of this is old news. Anyway, I kept seeing these cloches in our storage area and they were calling my name. Vintage bread board, succulents, Currier and Ives, and cloches. You can’t go wrong. 😉

I posted this to FB this week. It just jumped right out and slapped me. (Lord, please help me to be a cheerleader for those around me. I want to have a pure heart! Amen.) People often say that life is short…which is true…but life is such a gift. Wasting it on jealousy and petty things is just sad. I wanna be a rooter!!! You know…rooting folks on. I told a sweet, sweet, momma at church last night, that we were rooting for her. We are. Her baby girl is having some scary health complications and we are holding them up in prayer. That is real life. Genuine, heart to heart, stuff. I wanna live there. God is good, isn’t He? And the folks say…”All the time.”

I hope that Thursday treats you well. I hope that it feels like the beginning to your weekend. May you look around…and count your blessings…because life…is a gift.

Love from the Farmhouse,

p.s. Thanks for chattin’ it up with me!!! Leave me a comment! I love to read them!

Hey Guys!  How are you?  It’s been forever and a day…but today…I am back in the saddle again.  I appreciate those of you that continue to stop by to see if I have posted.  That warms my heart. My posts have been a bit spotty over the last several months, as I have concentrated on my health, but I do still love blogging.  Life has a way of bumping us up out of the saddle.  We have to be careful how we land. For those of you that don’t know…my Chiro calls it Fibromyalgia, and Doc calls in nerve related pain.  Whatever you label it…it’s not fun. That being said…life goes on and we have to roll with it. I’m learning to roll…in all of that time that I’m not blogging. *Winky face. Sooooo enough of that…let’s get this party started, shall we?

img_4721

I was slow about getting my fall decor out this year.  It was a very warm, humid, and summery September.  It just didn’t feel like pumpkin spice weather…no matter what Starbucks said. (btw:  We don’t have a Starbucks here…but I do love the PSL at McDonald’s once in a while.) Anyway…it finally cooled off and then warmed back up again. Typical Southern Missouri weather.  I did get out the fall stuff, some of it anyway. We visited the pumpkin patch, (So fun!) and we have been enjoying this cozy time of year. The little pumpkin lights above are so fun.  I found those at Big Lots and I love to turn them on of the evening, while we are all in the family room.  I brought the pine cones up out of the storage room too.  I just love pine cones in our home. So cozy…when you have grown up with pine trees, big and tall, in your front yard.

Okay….so this beauty above. My friend Shannon…found her at a sale the other day.  I’m pretty sure that this little wash stand has been living in someone’s barn.  Shanny called and said “Hey…do you want this?  I already asked my hubby and he said “no.”  lol!  She is a mess…and she knows me very well. At fifteen dollars…I caved.  The Mr. and my mom helped me spiff her up a little on Saturday.  We (he) had to evacuate a spider or two. Gag! Now she sits in the hallway of the Farmhouse in all of her white chippy glory…holding our radio, a lamp, and some twinkle lights in a ball jar. Oh, and also a white pumpkin that the Mr. picked up for me at the grocerystore. ❤  She is perfect.

Now…about that mantle. I have been wanting to do this forever. I have seen this idea on Pinterest…and at Magnolia. (Not in person…although I do have family close to Waco.) Sooo…on Columbus Day…the Mr. and I had an adventure.  We hunted high and low on our place for logs to use in this project.  We came up dry…so Shanny to the rescue again. We dug through their wood pile, then she used her dad’s chop saw. (Now the Mr. has chop saw on his Christmas List.) At this point it needs a few more slices and I am also tucking faux moss between the pieces.  I will show you the finished result. I love it.  It adds lots of coziness to our mantle and our family room.

Then there is this little gem.  I went to a Vintage Junk Trunk show in our town and came home with this little table. I wasn’t sure where to put it…but it’s so  cozy in our kitchen. I’m not big on clutter…and when new things come in I try to take old things out…so we shall see how it goes.  For now though…I love it here. I am told that it’s a little map table. It has folding legs.  Super sweet!

img_4725

I finally filled my wash tubs with pumpkins.  They actually came from ALDI.  They have such good prices on their pumpkins there…that you can’t hardly beat it. Anyway…it’s sure good to visit with you guys again.  I hope that Jesus is blessing your autumn…from your nose to your toes!

fall, farmhouse style, tuesday

Hey everyone! Are we runnin’ full steam ahead after the long weekend? I have things going around here…pretty much. It does feel like a Monday though.

Did everyone have a good holiday? We did. We decided at the last minute to have a little weekend get-away. It was fun! Yesterday though…we just kicked back a bit. That is always nice too.

I hit a couple of different Targets while I was in a town or two that actually had one. I had seen some things on Instagram that I was interested in picking up. They were fresh out of the checked throw pillows that I was after…but I picked up some cloth napkins…and may actually make them into window treatments. Fun…fun!

Are you guys starting to decorate for fall? I’m not just yet…but maybe soon!

Have a great evening!

braided rugs, cowhide, farmhouse style, rugs

You guys!!! How have you been? Has your August been as busy as ours? Ca.Ray.Zee. Today I’m gonna talk a bit about rugs galore okay? Okay!

I am totally in love with this new rug in our entry. Sometimes I buy new things and they have to grow on me. They have to woo my standoffish heart. Not so in this case. It’s crazy…this is the first braided farmhouse rug that we have had at the Farmhouse. What is the dealeo? 😉 Anyway…we are all loving this one. It came from a local shop and was a great deal!!!

(I just threw a little mantle love in there for fun.)

Theeeeeen…on my birthday…I finally got my cowhide that I have been dreaming of. We love it!!! It smells so good too. Leather is my favorite scent. (Sorry bovine population.) I  also love the bit of flair that it adds to our dining room. This is probably my favorite flea market find…ever. (Thank you Mister of mine and parents!!!)

Well…that is my rug rambling! Leave me a comment and tell me all about your summer finds!!! I loooooove to read your comments.

Hey Guys! Come on in for a bit. I thought that we would just chat a little today about Cozy Is On It’s Way.  Here in Southern Missouri we are feeling thankful for that fact.  Yes…it’s the first of August…but hopefully by the end of next month…the humidity will have let up a bit. By the way…I already have this wreath hanging on the front door of The Farmhouse. I loved it the minute I laid eyes on it. Cozy to the core.

img_3980-1

Do you guys have a Rae Dunn collection going?  I am a sucker for pottery of any shape or form…so I love hunting for these mugs. This summer I stashed them in an old locker basket. So fun.  I am actually having a cup of hot tea now.  It’s a blend of organic rose, lavender, and chamomile. It’s very good.  I know…you probably think I’m crazy…but it’s cold in here with the a/c.  I’m telling ya…around this time of year, thoughts of fall are very exciting.  I need to round up the few little things that I put out for the kids when it’s Back to School time. I have also been using Mulled Cider wax in the warmer. Our whole family loves it.

If you follow along on Instagram…you have probably noticed a nod toward the cozy part of the year.  The new black and white plaid curtains in our red room (It used to be red. lol!) are wonderfully cozy.  We also have a new braided rug in our entry. I really do love summer and all of it’s fun…but as a homemaker…the cozy time of year just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Kind of like this hot cup of tea.

So here we are. I hope that you guys had a wonderful weekend. Mine was chalked full of sinus crud…but things are a bit brighter today. Thankful for that! Just a few Monday musings for you. You know…stuff to ponder.

Isn’t that the cutest dish brush? I know!!! And those little utility shears? Those came from The Freckled Hen Farmhouse. Sweet Natalie can totally hook you up right here:

https://freckledhenfarmhouse.com

You can also find them on Insta!!!

Our zinnias are blooming. They are so fun! Maybe…possibly my favorite flower. I’m just not sure…because I love peonies too. I love roses also…in pale pink and cream. So many choices.

It has been hotter than a firecracker here in southern Missouri. Our poor little ladies and one gentleman (rooster) will be glad when it cools off a little…I’m sure.

A bunch of random Monday musings just for you. From me. The end.

Biscuits and Gravy

biscuits and gravy, farmhouse style, serving others

Hey guys!  How are you doing on this… day after a holiday?  I am chuggin’ right along. We are on vacation at home, this week, so I was up and at ’em while everyone else slept in for a bit.  Rest is always a good thing.  We promote that out here on the farm. With today’s lifestyle we make a marked effort to follow after peace…but here I am off topic.  You are probably thinking “Kel, what on earth does that have to do with biscuits and gravy?”  Well…I will try to tie it all together for you.

Yesterday, at some point, the Mister requested biscuits and gravy this week.  Today is his day. We also have “home grown” sausage in the freezer so we will pair it with that.  You see biscuits and gravy is not a meal that I constantly cook.  Truthfully…I haven’t made homemade biscuits in so long…that I had to try and remember where my ol’ faithful recipe was.  (Seriously…have y’all tasted those big fluffy FROZEN biscuits?) This week though…we are taking it slow and easy and a simple pleasure he requested…and a simple pleasure he shall receive. Sometimes when life gets busy, or hard, or complicated…I opt for the easiest way to get something done.  The thing about that is…I miss out on the cathartic benefits of mixing up my homemade biscuits on our kitchen counter. (If you love to cook…you understand…if not…just skim through this part.) 😉 I miss out on giving of myself to those that I love the most. I also miss out on the peace that comes from a process.

img_3672-2

Life gives lots of opportunities like that doesn’t it?  We can go the extra mile for someone or we can just pop something frozen in the oven. Don’t get me wrong.  Sometimes we just have to go that route, and sometimes that is our best…and it’s blessed.  There are other times though…when we have plenty of time to get flour on our hands and knead the dough.  I want to be wise to the ebb and flow of that.  Not just with my own family but with others that I am called to serve as well.  A healthy balance is a key ingredient to a peaceful life, I do believe.

You all have read this blog long enough to know that I am not just talking about cooking. Some of my readers may not even like to cook. Some days eating take-out is a total way to win me over. My point is that we (I) should be intentional with service toward others…no matter what we do. Time is one of our most precious commodities in this life. Sharing it will always be blessed. You wanna hear something crazy?  I don’t think that this was even my original thought today…but it just kept flowing.  Maybe all of this is for my own heart…or maybe some of you needed the encouragement to keep on keeping on. After all..this life really isn’t about us.  It’s about others…and biscuits and gravy.

Love from the Farmhouse,

Sigturquoise
