attitude, Monday

Are you a Monday person?  Bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to meet the day with a smile?  Or maybe you are more along the lines of…sitting on the side of the bed…near comatose.  It takes all kinds.

The thing is…the way that your day turns out, my day turns out, has a whole lot to do with us.  How do we meet the day and the challenges ahead of us?  Do we give thought to our response?  Are we ready with a smile and a bit of encouragement?

Truthfully…some days…it feels like that we barely have the strength to roll on out of bed.  Even on those days though, attitude is everything.  Don’t let Monday eat your lunch. You know why?  Cause you want your lunch!  You want to enjoy every last crumb.  Monday…is what we make it friends.

Now…get out there…and enjoy it!

Soup Weather

farmhouse style, food, soup

I have been making soup here at the Farmhouse.  I have made it two weeks in a row.  I can eat soup homemade, at the Chinese place, or out of a can.  I just enjoy it.

Soup is comforting.  When you have been sick or emotionally distraught…a big bowl of soup nourishes all of the above. Soup is like a warm hug.

It’s not uncommon to hear the term “soup weather” in these parts.  Most of us don’t cook a huge stockpot of soup in the middle of our humid summers.  My soup making fires back up when school starts and a bit of briskness is in the air.  I love that!!!

Soup is just cozy…and feels a lot like home.

Whole Lot of Stuff Going On

country life, farmhouse style, july fourth

Right now at the Farmhouse…there is a whole lot of stuff going on.  It’s the lazy days of summer…but it’s also almost the Fourth of July. (You already knew that.)  That means that we do things around here that need doing.  Yesterday it was Give the House a Bath Day.  Today Bushhog and Mow Day.  Those things have mostly been taken care of by the Mr.  I am the moral support and the maker of breakfast burritos.

Our church family comes out to our little farm to celebrate with us.  Now you are like…”Ahh ha!”  Now we know why all of this stuff needs doing.”  You are right.  I actually planned on staining the front porch too…but after the Mr. powerwashed it and I saw it in all of it’s chippy glory….we left it.  It had a very “Walton’s-esque” feel to it.  We are good for now, thanks.

I actually got my big camera out today and snapped a bunch of shots for new posts.  Then my computer decided to be sassy…so that will have to wait for another day.  That is okay though.  Sometimes…when there is a whole lot of stuff going on…you just have to give yourself a little grace.  I’m good with that.

A Place to Hang Your Hat

Are you guys crazy about the farmhouse style hooks that are popping up everywhere?  I am.  I have been adoring them from afar for a while.  I think that a place to hang your hat is a special thing.

I actually happened upon some a few weeks back.  I left them where they were though.  Last weekend though…I was in TJ Maxx and found these beauts.

They were very  friendly, cost wise, and I just couldn’t pass them up.  I am actually thinking about using them in our master bedroom.

Okay…so that brings me to this:

This is available today at Farmhousewares.com.  It is EXACTLY what I have been looking for.  Very exciting stuff.  I may swap out the hooks that I have in our entry with one of these.  I can’t wait to get it.  I am also excited that I left the others behind…a few weeks ago. Isn’t it fun when you keep something in mind and wait for it?  Sometimes that is hard to do…but I am a tad picky about not bringing something home…unless I really like it. I really like these places to hang your hat.

Love from the Farmhouse,

Kelli

p.s.  This is not a paid post. Totally my opinion and excitement. 😉

You guys!  I am still here!  Lol!  Thank you to those of you that have been here…even when I have not.  I have been under the weather a bit and honestly have not felt like doing much.  After a trip to my Chiro…I hope to be on the road again.  This getting older stuff is hard work!

I feel like I haven’t really gotten into gear with summer yet.  Our weather has been cool and rainy, sooo…spring has been long.  That isn’t a bad thing though.  We will miss this cooler weather about August.

I will leave you with a picture of this pretty Caprese salad today.  My husband picked up lemon basil for the herb bed this year and it is so bright in this salad. Such a fun time of year…when lunch can be picked out in the yard!!!

On the road again,

Willie…er…um…

Hey guys!  Is your summer off with a bang?  Ours has been.  It feels good to slow down a bit and just enjoy. Sometimes we have to make a conscious effort to let the good times roll.

By the way…it’s .50 corn dog night at Sonic…if you are interested.  You are welcome. 😉

I love easy, breezy, summer decor…that feels like it frees us up to do things outside.  I love a casual space in the summer.

I hope that your summer is packed full of relaxation and fun!

Let the good times roll,

Kelli

I was on Instagram a bit ago and I saw the hashtag #simplytuesday.  That little hashtag seemed to help me breathe a bit.  This week is a busy one for us…so sometimes deep breaths are good.  I think that a bit of Simply Tuesday will do us all some good.

Is it raining in your neck of the woods?  It’s sprinkling here.  I am waiting to do chores.  Good news though…no rain in the forecast for the next ten days I do believe.  That is music to this spring loving gal.  Rainy day blues…be gone.

wpid-IMG_20131001_125853.jpg

I may have to create a little sunshine today.  Do you guys do that?  Try to brighten the mood a little?  We are having tacos for supper and that always brings sparkly eyes to the Farmhouse.

I hope that you all have a wonderful Thursday.  I hope that you stop to count the blessings all around…even when they come in the form of raindrops.

Hey friends.  I am back!  You all are the best.  I have actually had half way decent stats while I have been gone.  Either you all have checked in, just to see, or people were actually stopping by and reading.  How sweet.  You, faithful readers, are amazing.

Sooooo….it’s crazy.  Our family has been puny for weeks.  One little bug after the other and then it hits the momma.  We are hopefully on the upswing.  Upswing is always good.

SONY DSC

In the middle of that we had snow days!  A whole week off.  We loved it.  I am one of those crazy moms that enjoy every little drop of school breaks.  It was wonderful and cozy and a good time to be under the weather…because we could just relax.  Now it’s time to get in full swing.  Deep breaths.  lol!

Tootsies and Tweetsies

Lately it has been my pleasure to feature local places on the blog. I love to support the folks in our community. My dad was the town locksmith for years…so our family realizes the triumph and trial of owning a business. Today I wanted to spotlight another “honey hole” that I love to visit. Tootsies and Tweetsies. They have a lovely store and tea room…which I have not tried yet…but need to.

My husband and I agree that the variety that they have is great. They have a mix of new and vintage. They have things for men and women. (Yes…I drug my husband along. He is a good sport when it comes to junking. I think he enjoys the hunt and my childlike excitement. Love him!)

I plan to buy local for Christmas this year…good Lord willing. I am also thinking on making some things to tuck in here or there. My Mr. bought a new sewing machine for me and I am excited to fire it up!

I am going to let the picture tell the rest of Tootsies and Tweetsies story. A wonderful little place. You don’t want to miss it!

Kelli

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
