Fresh and New

05 Monday Jan 2015

Hey Guys!  Happy Monday of a new year!  Is that excting? Fresh and new? I think so too.  I really do.  I am excited about what God is going to do for us here at Along the Dirt Road this year.  I have been giving it serious thought and prayer.  He and I have been looking it over together, and I think that moving forward with this blog is the thing to do.  You all are so gracious to drop by for a bit.  I love that.  I love to share the love of God and family with you.

So today…to get us started…I am going to share a little tid bit  with you.  Here it is:

If you struggle with the gloom of winter…houseplants help.  I know.  Rocket Science.

You may say, “Kel…I do not have a green thumb.”  Don’t worry, sweet Dirt Roader.  There are plants out there…made for those with the most black thumbs of all.  They are called succulents.  They are everywhere.  Wal-Mart would love to sell you one.  They require little care and they put a tad of green in your world…when everything else is brown and gray.

SONY DSC

It is my secret for combating the after Christmas blues.  I organize our home and tend my houseplants until spring.  I know.  I am a real wild woman.  lol!  It does help though.  A bit of green in the house perks my spirit.  That…and my faux lemons.  I need to get those out.  (If you are a lover of the long, cold, winter…you already think that I am crazy.)  It’s not really that I despise winter.  I love the coziness that comes with it.  It’s just that I am a child of the summer. I love the growing things.

SONY DSC

That brings us back to this blog.  May it grow and stretch and cause us to do the very same.  The main reason that I am in this…is just in case someone who needs a tad of hope..happens by.  I want to be here…holding the love of Christ out to them.  It may be wrapped in a post about soup.  It may be wrapped in a post about farm chores or new baby calves.  It may be in a post about crafting or cleaning.  Whatever we do here this year, I want the love of Christ to be at the very center. Along the Dirt Road is a place of fresh and new.  A place about growth and birth.  I am so glad that you are here.

Love from the Farmhouse,

Happy Thanksgiving to You!

Hey Dirt Roaders! Are you all prepped for the big day? We are counting our blessings here at the Farmhouse and I’m trying to abstain from the Christmas decor…a little while longer. It may be a losing battle. We are also wading through the one year anniversary of my dad reaching his ultimate goal. I know that this has been the best year (our time) of his life. Yes. Life. He is more alive now…than ever. Whew. Life is hard at times…but God is faithful. I am thankful.

On a lighter note…we are the proud owners of a new barstool. Big whoop…right? Well…our others come in a set of two and are pretty pricey. So…in true Along the Dirt Road fashion…we are mixing it up a bit. Target had these beauties and we love them. End of saga. p.s. It’s up for grabs if we replace the other two. What do you guys think?

I hope that you have an amazing Thanksgiving. May you enjoy the blessings of God down deep in your heart. I love those moments…with people…when they are talking…and I am quietly soaking in the grace of God. He makes me thankful.

Love from our Thanksgiving table to yours.

Whip Up A Pumpkin

Yesterday…I got a wild hair. A friend on IG had posted a pumpkin that she made. I had made a wreath like this in the past…so why not a pumpkin?

IMG_0460.JPG

It’s so easy! Just run a piece of garden twine through your rings, tie it tight and…ba bam! Tuck a piece of moss in the middle and tie a piece of ribbon around it! You have officially whipped up a pumpkin. Congratulations Dirt Roaders!!!

I hope that you have a wonderful Tuesday!

I needed to hear this again. Maybe you did too. xoxo ~k.

Sometimes in life, after a long, cold winter a tiny bit of hope is born.  It looks so fragile.  It looks so tender and tiny.  It’s really not.  Hope has an amazing will to live.  The Creator of all has placed something very determined….in hope.

SONY DSC

If you are barely hanging on…I want to encourage you.  The tiniest flicker of hope can kindle a huge flame.  If you can scratch up… just a bit…down inside your heart, it will grow and grow.

SONY DSC

Hope is a gift.  Do you feel it….when you hold a newborn or when you see your flowers poking their sweet little heads up out of the cold earth? Or how about when you get an amazing DIY idea to snazz up your home a tad?   Do you feel it then also?  I thought so.

Autumn…it’s truly here.

Does it take a while for autumn to show up where you live?  It does here.  In the Ozarks…it’s just about this time of the year and autumn really starts showing her stuff.

SONY DSC

As I sit here and type I can see out our patio doors.  I see burnt orange, gold and a green ceder tucked in between.  It’s beautiful.  The kids and I were talking about the handiwork of God yesterday on the way home.  What an Artist!

When the trees start to turn here, I long for Thanksgiving.  I think that I’ve mentioned that it’s my favorite holiday.  I just read recently that people that tell what they are thankful for before they eat…enjoy their meal much more.  It made me glad that we have that tradition with our little ones.

SONY DSC

Thanksgiving will always make me think of holidays on my grandparent’s little farm or a huge ham cooked by my Maw Maw.  It also makes me think of times spent at my husband’s Granny’s house.  She would gather all of us around the food and ask us to sing the song “I Am Blessed.”  We didn’t realize just how important that really was at the time.  Now that I’m older…and a tad wiser…I do.

SONY DSC

I love the holidays of past years and all of the memories.  I visit them quite often.  Even more than that though…I love the traditions and memories that we are building with our own family.  Granny Ruby…you were right.  We surely are blessed.

What do we find along the dirt road?

Sometimes along the dirt road you find treasures.  Sometimes you find trash.  Then sometimes…you find critters.

coon

My little guy enjoyed this post. I hope that your little guys and gals do too. 🙂

This little guy or girl was actually sitting on our deck rail one morning.  Our dogs were going crazy…barking at it…and wouldn’t let it down.  I think that the poor little coon looks stressed.  I would be.

Maybe the coon is thinking “Ahhh….It’s Friday and as soon as I get away from these nutty dogs….let the good times roll!”  Or it could be thinking….”I’m about to have a heart attack.”  Can you see it’s little “hand” on its chest?

I hope that you have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Roaders.  May you find treasures or critters along your dirt road…no trash.  😉

Kelli

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
