A CrAzY Quilt Brain

11 Thursday Jul 2013

Do you ever have times where random stuff just flies around in your brain?  Like this, for instance:

I mean…seriously…we just had the July 4th stuff going on…and I’m dreaming about pumpkins. Yes…they are my favorite thing to decorate with but….come on Kel.

Then….sometimes there are things like this in my brain.

SONY DSC

Well…actually….this ^ is swirling around in my brain…a lot.  Junk is my “happy place.”

(Why am I using the word brain so much?)

Then at times I’m thinking about stuff like this:

This week….I have been thinking a lot about a bedroom makeover that is going on…like right now.  It’s a room that has had ballet slipper pink, boysenberry, and pineapple colored walls.  Now they will be ballet slipper and salmon striped and sort of a sky blue/turquoise.  I cannot wait to share it with you. Today…I made a banner for the wall out of vintage sheets. Soooo exciting!

Before I ever do a project…it swirls around in my brain.  People think that I’m just…all sittin’ there being quiet and listening to them.  In all actuality….I’m painting walls and buying rugs and moving furniture…in my brain.  lol!  I’m kidding!!!!!!  I listen to people.  I save my daydreaming for car rides and such…where I really don’t have to pay close attention.  (You know…when I’m not driving.)  😉 btw:  Tonight on the way home from camp…I stood on the edge of the highway with my little child…while he was throwing up. It’s all good.  We were puking and praying.  We are a talented family.  🙂

SONY DSC

This plant died.  Isn’t that sad?  What did I do wrong?  Someone tell me….why the Lemon Button didn’t love us?

Have a wonderful Thursday, Dirt Roaders.  Thank you for coming on my crazy quilt ride today.  Sometimes it’s nice to not have much form…and just to go with what pops into your head.  Try it sometime.  Take a mini mind vacation.  Just don’t do it during the sermon!  😉

The preacher’s wife,

Sigturquoise

p.s. Really Honey….I listen!  😉  I love you!

Just because I love you!

I don’t always post each day. I know. You knew that.

SONY DSC

Truth is…sometimes I just have to live the life that you see in the pictures.

SONY DSC

I miss you when I’m gone though. I love to try to inspire you with beautiful things.

SONY DSC

I love to remind all of us about the grace of God and how beautiful this world is that He made.

SONY DSC

So…today…nothing close to rocket science. Just some beauty that you have probably seen before. It’s to tide you over until my next post…just in case you are waiting. If you are…bless your soul…thank you for riding along on this dirt road journey with us.

mmmMonday! Lemon Juice and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

17 Monday Jun 2013

Would you like to come and visit my happy place?  Well…one of them.  I have several actually…and one of them could involve stripey party straws and turquoise Ball jars…but that isn’t the one that I’m talking about on mmmMonday! today. By the way…I am not responsible for any mason jars or stripey straws that jump into this post today.  Okay…I am…but I know that it’s totally off subject…and I just can’t help myself.  I am rambling…but I’m crazy about the fact that Ball is celebrating with blue jars this year.  Okay…back on track.  Today on mmmMonday!…..my happy place of lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil.  It’s a beautiful thing.

SONY DSC

A couple or three years ago…my friend Jenny introduced me to the beauty of lemon juice on salad.  I’m just talking…a simple drizzle of olive oil and squeezing a fresh lemon over the top.  It’s so bright.  So fresh and delicious. It’s also very healthy.

SONY DSC

SONY DSC

You may already do this.  I just wanted the folks that have not tried it…to know the beauty of the humble lemon.  We have used it to make lemonade over the years…we have used it to flavor fish and chicken and lots of other things but squeezing it over salad without making a fancy dressing?  I challenge you to try it.  Your favorite veggies…with a sprinkle of sea salt and a few twists of freshly cracked pepper….then a drizzle of oil and a splash of lemon juice?  Amazing.

SONY DSC

Leave me a comment and let me know your favorite way to dress a salad.  I really want to know!

Smiles!

Sigturquoise

p.s. I hope that the dads in your life had an amazing Father’s Day weekend.  I think that ours did.  I enjoyed honoring my husband and our dads so much.  God is good…to give us these men to love us…lead us…protect and provide.  Amazing…this plan of His.  🙂

A little visit from the dirt road…

You know what?  I don’t have a project today.  I don’t really even have a topic.  This one will definitely go under the Ramblings category. You see…the pollen is kicking us swiftly in the backside.  Just about the time that we start to see though our allergy glazed eyes…something new buds or blooms.  We aren’t complaining.  We are smiling through our Benedryl…because we have been waiting patiently for spring.  I have a chick in the nest today…due to the high pollen count.

SONY DSC

Okay…enough whining.  What have you all been up to?  Are you itching to start a DIY?  I have one on the back burner.  It’s something that I have never attempted before…so hopefully it won’t be an epic fail.  I don’t want to spoil it…but I will tell you that it involves paint. I know.  You are shocked.

SONY DSC

Okay…so I couldn’t resist the pajama picture.  When my little ones are home…it just seems cozy.  Are you like that?  See!  I’m not the only one.

SONY DSC

Oh! I almost forgot to tell you a little tidbit from the home front…or the garden front…or whatever.  My husband told me yesterday that…..wait for it…..our green bean plants are up.  I know.  You are so excited.  I am excited right now…but I won’t be…so much…when the sun is beating down on the back of my neck as I bend over the green bean plants this summer.  The major upside to all of that?   I still have green beans from last year.  They have lasted us all winter.  I feel really thankful when our bounty is all put away.  God is good…to bless our little crop like He does.

SONY DSC

Well…I have yacked and blabbed and now I am done.  Have a wonderful day, Dirt Roaders.  The next time we visit…maybe I will have a little junkin’ inspiration for you.  We love that don’t we?  Of course we do….we are Dirt Roaders!

It’s Saturday out on the dirt road.  I know…you can’t believe it.

SONY DSC

It’s also rainy out on the dirt road.  I am so thankful for all the rain that we have been getting.  It’s wonderful.

SONY DSC

I just wanted to pop in and say “hi” since I don’t always blog on Saturday.  I hope that all is going well and that you are enjoying your families.

SONY DSC

Don’t forget to join us for mmmMonday!  We will be getting our culinary on…and hopefully have a recipe or some tips that will make your life easier.

SONY DSC

Until then…be blessed, Dirt Roaders and take time to smell the country air.  Just make sure that you aren’t downwind….if you know what I mean.  😉

A momma and her baby.

Happy Saturday!

Sigturquoise

p.s. Leave me a comment!  I love them.  How is the weather along your stretch of the dirt road?  Have you been junkin’ lately?  Inquiring minds…want to know.

Happy Casual Friday

26 Friday Apr 2013

Hey you guys!  You made it!  It’s Friday! So today…in honor of Friday…we are just going to do casual on the blog.  No real rhyme or reason, just some pretty pictures to look at and maybe gab a little.  Does that sound like a plan to you?  I thought that you would approve.

SONY DSC

(btw:  To all of you newcomers….WELCOME!  We are so glad to have you join us on this little faith filled,  farmhousey, junkin’, gardening, cooking and whatever else we feel like doing…adventure. You can also follow us on Facebook here. We would love to have you join us.)

This is the reason that I originally bought the labels. (Notice: Momma gets the end...she has the biggest purse! ;))

Do you have big fun-filled plans for the weekend?  Maybe you are just going to wind down from a long week.  Both options sound like a good idea to me.

Millie Jane, our brown eyed baby.

Tonight I am going to make nachos for the fam.  I love Friday night suppers.  They are so much more relaxing because we don’t have to rush around to fit in baths, homework and then devotions before bed.  We can take our time.  Life is so fast…it feels good to have a minute to slow down.  Agreed?  I thought so.

Aren't these amazing? I found the jars at the ReStore (four of them) and the Ironstone at the thrift store. (Do you guys follow For the Love of a House? When I saw her jars...I was in love with this idea.)

To all of my super-healthy friends…please close your eyes and scroll down.  I am getting ready to type something that will make you uncomfortable.  Processed Cheese Food.  Are you still with me?  You are brave. We love Rotel, Velveeta and ground beef nachos.  It is so wonderfully creamy, meaty and tomatoey and peppery.  My husband’s cousin Jess makes them this way and it is sooo good.  Healthy people…it will be okay.  We will start eating spinach again soon.  It’s Friday night…live a little.  😉 (If you do make this, add two cans of Rotel.  It’s scrumptious and soupy.  I don’t like it when it’s thick like pudding. If you do…we can still be friends.) 😉

SONY DSC

Whatever you do I hope that you enjoy it.  I hope that you take a few minutes just for you.  I hope that you find a quiet place to reflect on all that you have been blessed with.  I hope that you feel the love of God…warming your heart from the inside out.

Do you remember this cloche? I found it down on the bottom shelf at the thrift store for four dollars. That was a heart thumper...right there. ;)

Happy Weekend, Dirt Roaders!

Beautiful are the feet…

I have a confession to make. Hi, my name is Kelli…and I get kind of weirded out by feet.  You too?  Oh!  I am so relieved.  I didn’t want to be the only one.  There is just one thing though, you see, I had these babies.  When they were born I was drawn to their tiny little feet.  These babies grew and I still love their feet.  Their feet have had many kisses bestowed upon them.  Their feet have had many pictures taken of them.  I will show you some…just because it’s Friday and feet and Friday both start with F.  No…I don’t get it either.  Just work with me.  😉

feet 1

feet 2

I also have this husband.  He has feet.  I know…big shocker.  This husband is going to say “Babe…why did you put a picture of my foot on your blog?”  His feet are extra special too.  Not only do they help him as he goes about his day to earn a living for his family…they are beautiful. Would you like for me to explain that?  Okay…here goes…”How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things.”  Romans 10:15  My husband is a minister.  He carries the gospel of peace to our Kid’s Church and to the elderly at the high-rise apartments.  There is something very beautiful about all of that.  Trust me…I am there beside him, to witness what God whispers in his heart…to share.

feet 3

Guess what?  I have feet too! Shocked again?  I know, right!? One of my very favorite things about my own feet?  The pretty shoes that I can buy to put on them.  Ha!  Yes…I may not be a foot person, per say, but I have been a shoe lover from day one.  You too?  We have so much in common.  😉

SONY DSC

Have a wonderful day, Dirt Road Sweeties.  I hope that your weekend is full to the top with love and joy and peace and if you decide to get a pedicure this weekend…you can know, without a doubt….that I won’t be the one working in the salon.  😉

A blast of winter…

SONY DSC

I thought that I would share part of our view with you.

Hello my friends.  How are things?  Really?  Well…my…my.  😉  Really though, I do hope that things are going well for you.  We are trying to have blasts of winter along our portion of the dirt road.  I say blasts because it kinda comes in spurts and then the next day warms back up.  We should be used to it and we probably are, but it gives us something to talk about.

Our kid's favorite.

Our kid’s favorite.

Icy old ten speed.

Icy old ten speed.

Winter gets long for me.  I’m not complaining much…I love all of the seasons.  We are blessed to live in a place where we get to enjoy them all.  It’s just that I’m a summer type of gal and I get weary of gray skies after a while. (A little spelling tip:  Gray is the American spelling and Grey is the English spelling…just thought you might want to know.)

Millie Jane, our brown eyed baby.

Millie is keepin’ watch…like a boss.

Maybe it’s my mom’s fault…she used to sing “You are My Sunshine” to me all the time when I was little. I’ll blame it on Mom.  She won’t mind.

Our chickens are brave. A little weather doesn't phase them. (Can you see Mr. Henry's crazy-long tail feather?)

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good ol’ rainy day now and then.  I just long for Hawaii this time of year and I’ve never even been there! No blasts of winter in Hawaii, that I’m aware of.

A man's gotta eat.

Don't you just love it when they turn "just right" for their photo?

I hope that rain, shine, sleet or hail, you are having a wonderful day, Dirt Road Sledders.  Wrap your scarves all the way up your heads!  We don’t want those precious noses to freeze in a blast of winter!  It will be time to sniff the flowers soon.

Brave little tulips.

Warm wishes!

Just stache and relax!

Sometimes in life…when your sisters are helping your mom make a banner…you need to make a big ol’ whoppin’ mustache.
A small mustache will not do.  It must rival the stache of  Yosemite Sam.  If it is covered in white polka dots that is even better.  If you can snag a piece of your sister’s fancy schmancy Duck Tape, (Not the old Duct Tape…get with it….elderly.)  😉 then it looks even better. Sometimes you just need to stache and relax.

SONY DSC

Sometimes in life…if your brother makes a huge mustache out of the banner paper…then you need to get creative and make a curly mustache.  If you can’t make one that is bigger…then it must be better.  You need to look quite sophisticated…especially if you are a little lady sportin’ a mustache.  Sometimes in the middle of a project…you just need to stache and relax.

SONY DSC

Our kids teach me so much in life.  They teach me that in the middle of a project…it’s wonderful to be crazy and funny.  When I’m too driven or their dad is too exact…they show us that it’s okay to lighten up.  This project was actually a part of my chalkboard chart that I gave you a sneak peek of on Facebook.  I’m putting that off until next week.  This week we have icy weather…kids at home and family time.  So until next week…it’s stache and relax for me.  Maybe I should go find one of those mustaches and put it on.

Have a wonderful weekend, Dirt Roaders!  Go forth and wear a stache!

Sig

p.s. No mustaches were harmed during this post. 😉

Can you believe it?  Six months in!  On August 17th of 2012 this little blog was born.  (It actually rolled over to the 18th during the birthing process.) Although it’s still such a young little thing…I have learned a lot.

One of my favs. :)

One of my favs. 🙂 I believe that this picture was actually on my second post.

You can read my very first post here.  It’s very short and sweet.  🙂 Basically an intro.

The next day was my birthday.  My little brother decided to do a major dirt bike stunt and land himself in the hospital.  This little blog was born in the middle of much chaos! Thankfully…he was okay. The blog is still bee-boppin’ along.

My first header for the blog.

I hope that your weekend is going great!  Happy six months in…..to my readers!  You have a special place in my heart.

Kelli

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
