Winter Wreath

Hey Sweet Dirt Roaders!  How is Thursday treating you so far?  You have made it!  One more day until the weekend.  I always think of my aunt Jo when we talk about counting down.  She works hard to support her family and she is ready for a break.  I don’t blame her!

So…let’s talk winter wreath!  You know…I couldn’t remember for sure if I had shared this with you.  Then I remembered why.  I had shared it on Instagram…not here.  This wreath is soooooo simple.  I think that I actually got the idea for the ice skate in a Better Homes and Gardens magazine.  Don’t they just pack their magazine with all kinds of fun stuff?  I thought that you would agree.  😉

This wreath is made with what looks like burlap.  (Of course we are all nuts for burlap….except the lady at the material counter at Wal-Mart.  She can’t understand the sudden craze and she said that she thinks that it stinks.  She oughta smell it under a hot iron.  PEEEEE U!)  This is really kind of like Poly Mesh.  You know…the stuff that is all over Pinterest for wreath making.  This kind has a papery feel to it though.  I love it.  I have actually had it up since fall…and just changing out the decor on it for the season. So far though…the winter wreath…might just be my fav.

I love home decor that you can revamp. 🙂

May the Lord above bless you from the crowns of your sweet heads…to the soles of your dusty feet, Dirt Roaders.

p.s.  I’m gonna be working on my January Purge list.  Pray saints….pray.  😉

Hello Friends!  Happy…day after Christmas.  I hope that all is well on your path today.  We are just hanging out and…enjoying.  My favorite part of it all.  That being said, I didn’t want you to think that I forgot about the chalkboards.  Remember when I said that I was making them for Christmas presents and that I would show you later?  Well, I’m all about keepin’ my word.  So…I’m going to show you the two that I still have that haven’t been given as gifts yet.

An elegant little chalkboard.

I am still amazed by the way that you can transform a picture frame with some chalkboard paint.

I hope that you have a wonderful day, Dirt Roaders.  I hope that if you are in food detox, it’s going well for you.  I may check in with you a time or two during the rest of our break.  Now, go forth and…relax.

Gifts from the garage floor…

Okay…okay.  So now…none of you want a gift from me.  Just hang on and let me explain.  Yesterday, I spent the day running out to the garage (freezin’ my poor little self) and spraying layer after layer of chalkboard paint.  Have you noticed that chalkboards are all the rage right now?  (Do people still say “all the rage?”)  Well, if you haven’t dear one…they are.  Thus, gifts from the garage floor.  Several of our recipients are getting chalkboards this year.  I’m soooooo excited the give them. (Now the ones that read my blog will wonder if it’s them.) 🙂

It’s very easy to do.  I just pop the glass out and paint it, write on it, then I pop it back in.  No prob, Bob.  I usually do at least three layers of paint.  I use spray chalkboard paint.  It’s easy peasy.  I think that most people recommend that you wait to write on them for at least twenty-four hours.

So, those are my gifts from the garage floor.  It would make my little junkin’ heart happy to hear about gifts that you are making for your friends and family.  Personally…I love to give those the best.  It’s fun to have these special people in mind while you work on their gift.

I will leave you with a chalkboard that I made during the summer.  Lovity, love, love this frame.  (Thank you TJMaxx!) I will take pics of the chalkboards that I am making and share with you after Christmas.  I don’t want to spoil any surprises.

p.s. When I call you guys Dirt Roadies…my spell check suggests “toadies.”  I would never call you all “toadies.”  Maybe.  😉

Ponderings of a snowman…

If a snowman were to ponder…what would a snowman ponder?

SONY DSC

Would this snowman ponder… how dapper that he looks?

Would he ponder… where to look for a snowlady?

Would he ponder… how kind that it was for my step-mom to make him?

Would he be glad that she gave him to me?

I hope so, because I sure am.

Have a nice day of pondering, Dirt Roaders!

p.s. I have the most wonderful Wicked Step-Mother in the world.  😉

All treat…no trick.

Hey friends!  Today I’m going to share with you just a little something that I love.  Prizeys!  (That is what we call them in our family.  They are little gifts that someone gives you for no reason.)  I love to take little fall treats to our kid’s teachers.  Most years I try to take treats around the first day of fall buuuuuut… this year, I took them when they had their Halloween parties.  Whatever the occasion it’s a very fun thing to do and it makes someone else feel special.  It’s a win/win taking treats for another person.  Especially teachers, right?  RIGHT!  They deserve a treat!

I love to do treats in cello bags.  I am also crazy about stamping and making my own tags.  I will try to get Christmas treat ideas up and running ahead of time, just in case you need a little inspiration.  These that I made for the teachers would work for Thanksgiving too.

So fun and easy. A cute little kitchen towel and a pumpkin from the Dollar Tree.

What a cutie-patootie little pilgrim. 😉

This was from last year. I love the old fashioned looking Mary Jane candies. I put them out in little bowls around our home in the fall.

Happy Wednesday, Dirt Roadikins!  Have a very blessed day!

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
