Hey guys!  How are you?  We are nuts.  Life is crazy-busy and God is good.  I just wanted to stop in….say hello and show you a few things from around the Farmhouse.

This is Chuck.

He is our new little Jersey bull.  Hopefully he will be the first of many, through the years.  We are super excited about him.

I made my first batch of homemade bath salts this week!  A cup of Epsom Salt and about 10 drops of Young Living Essential Oil and you are set!  I will try to blog in more detail about this soon.

Allergy season is ablaze at the Farmhouse.  I am very thankful for this trio.

Have a great day!  (Btw:  I hope that you had a blessed Easter!)

Happy Kitchen

Is your kitchen a fun place to be?  I sure hope so.  Most of us spend lots of time there.  When people come to the Farmhouse…they generally go straight to the kitchen.  I am good with that.  I try to make our kitchen a happy place to be. Most of you probably remember, a couple of months back, when we painted our kitchen.  I love it…so much.  The white just makes everything stand out.  Do me a favor. If your paint color doesn’t make you happy…change it.  Paint is really an inexpensive face lift.  Save back a few bucks a week and you will have enough, before you know it, to buy paint.  I promise, you will love it!

Sometimes, when I go junking, I have a hard time saying no to kitchen junk.  It’s my absolute fave.  I love vintage kitchen things to decorate with.  The thing about that it, I love a simple look, so I have to make sure that I am choosey.

SONY DSC

I have probably already told you this, sometimes I forget…after all of these posts, but a while back I weeded out my kitchen.  I took the things off the tops of the cabinets that I didn’t really love and kept only the things that I really needed on the counters.  Do you ever watch Sarah Carey cooking videos?  I get those sent to my email.  I know that it’s a test kitchen of sorts, but I love the simplicity.  I love the little pots of herbs and the utensils.

SONY DSC

I have a challenge for you.  Walk into your kitchen and clear out anything that doesn’t make you happy.  I promise…you will love it.  It will make you feel like you just took a deep breath.

SONY DSC

When we painted our kitchen I decided to take the plates out of the plate rack that had been there for years.  I got a wild hair and replaced them with some of my favorite cookbooks.  I love the difference.  Looking at all of the bright colors against the white, makes me feel happy.

SONY DSC

As you can tell, this is not so much a DIY blog.  It’s really just more about inspiration.  If photos of our home and the way that things can be arranged put a little idea in your head…then my job is done.  Those are the blogs I love.  The ones with good photography and inspiration.   BTW:  I have been trying to figure out the color that I want to keep for my badge.  I’m kind of digging the gray.  We shall see. 🙂

I hope that your kitchen makes you feel happy,

Farmhouse Weekend

14 Monday Apr 2014

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope that the day is being kind to you.  We got a lot accomplished over the weekend here at the Farmhouse. That is a good feeling.  Thankfully the weather was good.  Today it’s a tad cheee-leeee.  I wouldn’t want to be out building fence today.  I am kind of a weenie when it comes to cold weather.  I feel sorry for the people that are getting snow right now.  One thing I do know…we do not control the weather.

SONY DSC

I decided to bake a cake over the weekend.  I did cheat.  It’s a boxed mix and of course you can see the icing.  I love Saturdays around here.  The week before I was helping outside, but I enjoy Saturdays when I can just piddle around the house.  Maybe bake something fun or rearrange something.  Saturdays are fun for cooking too…because I don’t feel rushed like I do through the week.  Saturday is probably my second favorite day of the week…because my first is…Thursday.  Yeah…I don’t know either.  😉

Before I let you go…I want to tell you about an answered prayer.  This morning during my quiet time I was talking to God from my heart.  I was needing Him to let me know that my heart was being heard.  He doesn’t have to answer prayers like these.  He knows that I would still serve Him.  That being said…it wasn’t very long until my cousin called and told me that I had been on her heart all weekend.  Isn’t God good?  He takes time…to hear the prayers of a daddy’s girl that is still hip-deep in the grief process.  This would be a very long post…if I tried to list all of the ways that God has carried us through this.  My sweet husband gave me some cut and dried wisdom one day.  This is what he said:  “God knew that this was going to happen…all down through time.”  So simple…yet so profound.  I love that.  My Mr. balances me.  I am truly thankful.

I hope that your Monday is filled with Sonshine.  😉  I hope that you look around and see things and in your heart you say…”God…that was You!”  Those are the best moments in this old world.  He is making dreams come true here at the Farmhouse.  We are continually grateful to Him.

Praying for you, dear readers…

New Beginnings

11 Friday Apr 2014

Life is amazing.  This morning during my quiet time…I was counting my blessings.  I decided that when you really live inside the moment..life is incredible.  Sometimes life is full of new beginnings.  At times we don’t choose them, and sometimes we do.

image

There is fence building going on at the Farmhouse.  We are looking towards adding cattle to our little farm.  Right now we consist of a flock of chickens, two spoiled goats, dogs and cats.  We also need to add a barn at some point.  Our garage is filling up with feed and all of the things that go with farm life.

image

image

This has been a dream of ours for quite awhile.  We needed to wait on God’s timing.  Waiting on Him is a huge part of our life.  We enjoy the harmony that comes with taking our cues from Him. That isn’t to say that we aren’t real and have never jumped the gun.  We all make mistakes.  We just love the peace of being in tune with Him.  Good Lord willing, and the creeks don’t rise… we will have fence done before too long.  Then we can add new “family members.” I believe that He will help is find the ones that we need.  After all…He is the God of new beginnings.  I love that about Him.

image

I hope that your weekend is amazing.  I hope that your dreams are coming true.  God loves His children.  He really does.  He has our good…at the center of His heart.

How is it going on your little piece of the planet?  Here at the Farmhouse, there are tons of things on the outside agenda.  That is a good thing…but it will also be nice when a few of them are checked off of our list.

image

I am going to be helping the Mr. today…but I wanted to pop in real quick and chat for a minute.  I promise….soon…I will get totally back in gear.  Life is crazy at times.  Agree?  Ikr!?

image

By the way…another thing that I need to work on is Easter baskets.  I love making those for our kids.  Easter will be here before we know it.

image

Well….today I will be workin’ like a farmhand…how bout you?

Love,
Kelli

Hey friends!  How is it going today?  We have quite a bit of work going on outside today.  That is good though.  Especially since I couldn’t keep my hand out of .the Lay’s bag at lunch.  Busy days at the Farmhouse are fun though.

image

Yesterday was a crazy day of of junkin’ with my mom.  We actually found a new place.  Not everyone has a turquoise chicken shirt…but now I do.  Thanks Mom.  Good eye….good eye.

I hope that you Saturday is amazing.  I hope that you enjoy counting your blessings.  They are all around.

Easter Mantle

02 Wednesday Apr 2014

You know…I’m cutting it kinda close.  Easter will be here in a few days.  The funny thing is, I have had our mantle decorated for quite some time.  I was getting a little antsy for spring, with all of that snow everywhere.

SONY DSC

Our Easter mantle is very simple.  Just a few things that I already had and my new rabbit, Brenda.  You all know that simple is the the way that I roll.  It helps me relax a tad. Oh…and another thing.  That ironstone platter above the mirror…was a huge find!  I paid fifty cents for it.  Major score!  It pays to dig. lol!  I love to go junking always, but the thrill of the hunt is when you get a major bargain.  I was very thankful!

SONY DSC

I’m getting excited to make Easter baskets for our babies.  That is always fun.  I’m not sure if I will rummage around in the basement and use old baskets or buy new ones.  Last year I found some really cute baskets at The Dollar General.  They looked like eggs.  I may just doctor those up again.  New grass, a cute tag, and some goodies tucked inside. That sounds like a plan.

SONY DSC

I found an Easter basket that I wanted from Pottery Barn.  lol!  It’s a tad more expensive than the ones that I mentioned above.  The fun part about that?  I also found it on Ebay!  I love having an auction-loving Mr.  I put it on the watch list.

SONY DSC

Is it Easter bonnet weather in your neck of the woods?  It’s just about flip-flop weather here.  Our girls have been wearing them already.  This momma has to wait a bit.  My piggies turn purple when they get cold.  Wee wah.  lol!

Confession, Good for the Soul

31 Monday Mar 2014

Posted by Kelli in heart and soul

I have a confession to make.  Are you ready?  Okay here it goes.  I have really struggled with this blog since my dad went to Heaven.  I’m sure that you could probably tell.  Lots of quick posts.  Sometimes though, when you are just trying to survive, it’s hard to do this sort of thing.

image

Here is the thing.  You guys are amazing.  You encourage me, as I try to encourage you.  I want to keep writing and sharing about country life and making a home and God’s amazing love.  I just want you to know that if posts seem sparse or quick…it’s because our family is focusing on healing at this point.  A human only has a certain amount power and the rest is up to God.  I love that.

image

When my dad was here, he would call of a morning and ask what I was doing.  I would say…”Just bloggin’ a little.”  We would laugh.  I miss that more than I could ever explain.  I know that he is with his Father now.  God has underlined that for me in so many ways.  I will be eternally grateful for the way that God has carried us through this.  That being said, the human heart is still healing.

image

On this part of my path, I am learning new joy in the simple things. I want to share that with you.  I have changed.  You cannot survive this…without changing.  Change, when God is involved, is always perfect though.

Love from the dirt road,

Kelli

Welcome to our stretch of the dirt road! It is filled with junkin' trips, culinary experiments and anything to "fluff the nest" which is our farmhouse. I love home decor that fits my family. I love a simplicity that we can live in. Maybe that is why the country life is so appealing to us. It's a place to breathe deep...and enjoy the journey. Join us! We would love to have you. (You might even see a chicken or two.)
